Lives of Two Foxes

This is little warning before you start ;

I did a bit of research on foxes and I still managed to mess it up so I apologize if any of my facts are wrong, this message is applicable to my other animal books [I may or may not have forgotten to add this warning in them]

I'm just sitting here

Existing

I was born approximately month ago

Mother sits her with me in our den while dad goes out for food

My mother would sing to me and tell me different tales she spun off the top of her head.

Stuff like 'the furry creature' and 'mysterious red'

They were nice

Mom also tells me about the outside word

More specifically the dangers of the outside world

She told me about hunters and hawks and whole bunch of other predators

and she also tells me she soon won't be around as frequently as she usually is.

That I need to grow up and be strong for my future mate and pups

I also want to be strong but for now I'm satisfied with cuddling with my mother

Rain

This is my chance

I lower myself to the ground and move stealthily

Shielded by the tall grass I crept forward at a steady pace

In front of me and oblivious to it's impending doom was a bird

A woodpecker to be exact

It still had it's back to me as it munched on some bugs

Soon I'll be munching on you

It still didn't notice me when I was only a little distance away

I pounced

Its dies once I deliver a chomp to it's neck with all my might

It was small prey but prey nonetheless

I look up to see my dad giving me a proud look making me overjoyed

Next time I'll catch a bigger bird

I didn't want to share so I ate it up on the spot before going to the river to wash the blood and feathers off my face.

I look up and notice another fox at the struggling near the river's edge.

"It's not that deep, what are you doing?!"

I yell making the fox freeze before turning to face me

Ron

I drag the rabbit I caught back to the den to show and share with my mother.

Hopefully she'll be proud of me

Unlike my father who is always pointing out my faults and is always going on and on about how I wouldn't survive when I leave the den next week.

I had being perfecting my hunting skills for the past few months and I think I'm ready to survive when I do leave.. hopefully.

Except from Jill all my other siblings already left the den, I still want to be with my mom for a while but I have no idea while Jill's still sticking around.

"What do you have there Ron?" asked my sister Jill but I ignored her and continued walking back to the den.

"Is that a rabbit which you will generously share?"

I walk even faster already predicting what she's about to do

"Of course I'll take a piece of the meat, thank you very much"

I try running but she drags the rabbit from my mouth and successfully managed to take more than half the rabbit

"mm m mm mm"

(translation: thanks' loser)

I watch her run off till she left my line of sight before sighing pitifully and finding a place to eat the rest of the rabbit.

I take a strol to digest my food and somehow found myself outside my territory.

If I run into any males I am in a whole other level of trouble

I need to get rid of my scent

I quickly find a small river a jump in

I wanted the water to thoroughly wash me so I move around and wriggled in the water.

"It's not that deep, what are you doing!?"

I freeze for a second before turning to face the source of the voice

It was a good thing I was wet right now or she might have noticed the drool leaking out of my mouth.

Wow she's beautiful

Rain

I raise an eyebrow at the fox who just stared at me stupidly

I could have run back to my den and alert my father about the intruder but something was holding me back

I had to admit he was pretty cute.

And mating season is coming up..

I puff up my chest and flip my tail in a flirty manner

"What are you doing on our territory"

I watch as he emerges from the water and it's like everything is in slow motion

He shakes the water off his body then gives me foxy smile which melts my heart.

Either the river wasn't that wide or he was super fast because he was in front of me before I could finish my thoughts

"Well foxy lady, I was just strolling around and happened to come across your territory"

"I'll be on my way now.."

"..unless you don't want me to?"

"Do you want to frolic or run?"

He whispered those last words and looked at me with raised eyes which I bravely stared back at.

"How about we frolic and run?"

I suggest and he barks out a laugh before lightly shoving me and taking off

This is the part where I'm to go after him so I run after him.

Oh no you don't

Ron

We frolicked and ran and bonded..

.. and mated

She was.. loud

But that is part of the process

We are currently just laying on the snow filled grass enjoying each other's company.

Things were peaceful

I look up at the sky and notice it would soon be dawn.

I guess I can't go back home now or ever

It's up to fate if we might ever meet again

I'm on my own now

I need to find us a place to live

I look down at the angelic face who snuggled herself deeper into my chest

I guess this is the start to a whole new beginning

Rain

Ron and I have being climbing up this hill for who knows how long

He told me we could rest but there was no way I was looking weak in front of my new man.

When are we going to get there?

After a few minutes I notice Ron had stopped and was now walking and sniffing around

"What are you doing?"

"I'm making sure no other animal claimed this place"

"I found this place a while back but its been some time.. so what do you think?"

I look around and notice the trees, stream and all bunch of stuff that made this place suitable for living.

"Uhh yeah, it's pretty nice"

"Do you want to look around the area"

I walk up to him and lick his face before walking on ahead, not forgetting to swish my tail in his face.

I get a face full of snow when I get pushed from behind, I look up and catch the smirk he sends me as he walked on ahead

I think I'm falling in love

Ron

We've spent about a week in our new territory and things were pretty nice and peaceful.

But peace never lasts long does it?

"Where is you're leader?! we want this territory!"

A voice shouts,

Jolted awake by the sound I get up rushed out of the den.

I glared at the fox who stood at the border of my territory with a proud expression.

"Who are you and what are you doing here"

"Like I said before which you would know if you were listening"

"I want your territory so I'm challenging you"

I raised an eyebrow at his cockiness and made myself seem even taller as I approached him.

"You want to fight?"

"Yeah I do"

"Well then"

With that we lounged at each other and every other thing seemed like a blur

Rain

I watch Ron fight the other fox from the den

.. and as the fox gains the upper hand

This looks bad

And Ron gains the upper hand again

But the fox plays dirty as he tries to bite Ron's baculum

Ron successfully dodges and managed to get a hold of the foxes neck

He soon releases the fox who immediately runs/staggers away.

Ron stands tall and watches the fox leave our territory

Then he collapsed

I race over and lick his face worriedly as I watch him groan.

"I'm fine *sigh* just drag me *sigh* to the den"

"Don't die, we literally just got together"

"I probably wo.."

I noticed he lost consciousness mid-sentence and started dragging him back to our den

I have a bad feeling about all of this

Ron

Every where's dark

That's the first thing I notice as soon as I regain my consciousness

I look around and noticed I was in my den

But where's Rain?

I get to my feet, flinching as I accidentally touch my wound

That looks bad

I lick it a couple of times before I head out

I was looking around for Rain when a loud screech made my blood run cold.

Hawk

I stiffy ran back to the den and watched to hawk hover around in the sky before suddenly it dived down.

What is going o..

I get cut off by another screech but this time it wasn't the hawk

Despite my aching body I take off to the direction where the shout came from.

Rain?

Rain

Stop whining I'll make it quick

I chomp down on the struggling rabbits neck and it finally stops moving making me sigh in relief

This one's a fighter

I grab the dead rabbit's body and make my way back to the den

A sudden screech makes me stop in my steps

I turned around hoping it wasn't what I thought it was but I was wrong

"Give me the rabbit"

I toss the rabbit without hesitation really hopping he would leave

He clawed at it a little before ruthlessly smashing it with his talons

"Cute of you to think I was serious"

He suddenly lounged at me giving me no time to react

He gave a nasty gash my side that sent me flying to the side

"You piece of.."

I couldn't complete my sentence as he delivered another blow rendering me a bloody mess.

I felt myself being picked up and was about to struggle harder when a bark sounded and I was dropped

Through blurry eyes I could faintly see Ron confronting the eagle

"Get off m.."

"Make me yo.."

"Ron get out of here!"

"I'm not leaving you!"

The eagle rushes towards Ron, clawing at the same spot where his former wound was and at different parts of his body before flying towards me.

His talons dig deep into my fur as I get carried away

I could hear Ron's cries for me get fainter each second

Ron

Every inch of me felt like it was on fire but my mind wasn't on that

Rain

I need to do something

I shakily get on my feet but couldn't even walk as I fall back to the ground

Thunder strikes at that moment and rain begins to pour heavily

Is this how I die?

Those were my last thoughts before everything went black

I blink my eyes open before shutting them tight as rays of sunlight from the sky shine brightly

Everything from yesterday came flooding into my brain making me jump to my feet

I wince from the pain

"At least I'm clean"

The rain from last night had washed away all the blood leaving no evidence of the drama

It was like it never happened

But I know it did

I remember the direction which the eagle flew in and headed in that direction.

I hadn't payed attention to where I was going and ended up lost

I could here the sound of faint popping sounds which only grew louder by the second

I hurriedly hide inside a bushy and keep watch for the source of the nose

*Bang*

A group of humans emerged from behind the trees

Hunters

One of them pressed the contraption in his hands and something immediately shot out.

The rabbit that just hopped past me was now dead

I tried to stay completely still but it was useless

"Look over here, this one's trying to hide"

*Bang*

A shot is fired through the bush but it doesn't hit me by luck

I immediately run out of the bush, going between trees so they would miss in case they fired a shot

I felt my idea was great but reality proved otherwise

*Bang*

I get shot in my hind leg and crash to the ground

*Bang*

I get shot again but this time in my fore leg

I face gets lifted up by a cold metal and I meet the eyes of a human with ruthless eyes

"You gave us a bit of trouble back there.."

He started rambling on and I zone out, my ears rang and my vision was filled with black spots in seconds

I'm sorry for being too weak

I'm sorry for being too late

"..although it would be a shame to ruin his fine fur of your I'm afraid it has to be"

Perhaps we can be together in our afterlife

*Bang*

I rush through the trees

I hear them hunting me

From them I flee

Is this the end of me?

Yes it is

Rain

I was a bloody mess yet I kept running

I managed to escape from the eagle and stayed conscious for this long.

Well that's if you call seconds away from death being conscious

I knew I was in an unfamiliar territory but something made me look around.

I could pick up Ron's scent

"This one's a big one"

I could hear voices from the distance making me still

I peered up without making any noises and noticed the fox slung across one of the humans shoulders

It was bloody and the head was quite an unfortunate sight but I could easily recognize Ron.

I kept staring at him without noticing they had left the area and was blankly staring at air

My eyes get blurry as tears stream down my face

Rain began started falling along with my tears and I soon lost consciousness.

I don't remember waking up..

.. or if I did.

There is one who you belong to,

Whose love.. there is no song for.

Your heart was once a vessel,

It was filled up to the brim;

Until the day he left me,

Now everything sings of him

He lives in the stars above you,

In the love who came and stayed.
