Gorkha Durbar

The Gorkha Durbar Located in the Gorkha District of Nepal is a historical landmark built in 17th century by Ram Shah. It is 140 km far from Kathmandu and 24 km north of Abu Khaireni within Kathmandu and Pokhara highway. The Durbar is built on the top of hill at a altitude of about 1000 meter. This Durbar is an hour walk from the downtown Gorkha Bazaar. The Durbar is the birthplace of the Late King Prithivi Narayan Shah (1723) who was born in the Dhuni Pari, which is a part of Durbar and he started unification of Nepal from there in 1801 by attracting on Nuwakot.

The Durbar lies on the hilltop and is completely fortified. To reach the Durbar, you can climb an exhausting stairway of 1,500 stone steps, snaking up to the hillside, or take a taxi along the road winding up to a car park just below the northern gate. The durbar is an example of Newari architecture. The walls of the Durbar are about three feet think. The floors are supported by extended wooden beams. Gorkha Durbar has religious important due to the placement of various Hindu temples inside the Durbar. Nearby is the mausoleum of Guru Gorakhnath, the reclusive saint who acted as a spiritual guide for the young Prithivi Narayan Shah. The temple of Goddess Gorakhkali lies on the southwestern side of the Durbar.

The Durbar also serves as a viewpoint to observe Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Himalchuli, Mt. Annapurna and Ganesh peaks of the Himalayas in the Northern side while planes of Gorkha and surrounding villages in the southern side. Tallo Durbar as a museum now which include various items including armours, paintings, and the Divya Upadesh of Late King Prithivi Narayan Shah and rural life with their own district town with sun set view are great in there. The Durbar suffered some damage during earthquake of April 2015. The reconstruction works are under going to conserve the heritage site.

Nuwakot Durbar

Nuwakot Durbar is not too far from the Kathmandu valley. You will need a day or you can just take out one or two days from your Nepal travel schedule for visiting this delightful and ancient palace(Nuwakot Durbar). It was built by Late King Prithivi Narayan Shah in 18th century. This palace is an important landmark in the history of Nepal. You have option to choose a night spend in the Trishuli bazaar and Batter bazaar or option for a day hike upto the palace.

This ancient building stands proud at the elevation of 900m. While the interior of the palace suffered some damage during the recent earthquake on 25th April 2015 but it is still possible for visitors to stroll around and click photographs. The reconstruction work is undergoing to conserve the heritage site.

The Durbar(Palace) is still an undiscovered treasure, despite its historical and culture significance. The Durbar have all those tools and things which were used by Late King Prithivi Narayan Shah. Those two historical palaces showed the total history of late king Prithivi Narayan Shah. Gorkha is the birth place of late king Prithivi Narayan Shah while he died in Nuwakot. Gorkha Durbar and Nuwakot Durbar carried the most important part in the united process of Nepal.
