Wildlife of the Netherlands
The European country The Netherlands is also known as Holland. It is located between Belgium, Germany, and the Atlantic Ocean. The country encompasses the Caribbean Islands of Bonaire, Saba, and Saint Eustatius in the Lesser Antilles chain.

The National Symbol of The Netherlands is the lion. It is a popular regal symbol of strength and power throughout European history. It is part of the country’s Coat of Arms.

European hedgehogs are a species of mammals that are native to much of Europe and northwestern Asia.

European rabbits are also known as coneys in the UK. They are a species of rabbits native to southwestern Europe and northwestern Africa. One of the most famous local rabbits is the Netherland Dwarf, one of the smallest rabbit breeds in the world.

Gray wolves are native to much of the Northern Hemisphere and one of the most common animals in Europe.

Red foxes are a versatile species and practically live anywhere. They inhabit much of the Northern Hemisphere.

European badgers are a species of mustelid that are common throughout Europe and into the Middle East.

Red deer are one of the largest species of deer in the world. In the Netherlands, they live in large herds of about 3,000 individuals in the OOstvaardersplassen, a nature reserve in the central part of the country.

Central European boars are medium-sized and found all over Europe, particularly in the forests.

European moles are common all over the Netherlands.
Birds

White storks are a large species of birds native to much of Eurasia. In the Netherlands, there are about 500 white storks left.

Common buzzards are a medium species of birds of prey.

Eurasian eagle owls are one of the largest species of owl.
Marine Animals

European minks are semi-aquatic species native to much of Europe.

Eurasian otters are a species of semi-aquatic mammals native to much of Eurasia. They’re found in freshwater rivers and lakes in the Netherlands.

Gray seals are the most widespread species of pinnipeds in the world. They’re found in the northern parts of the Atlantic Ocean and the coastlines of northwestern Europe, the Baltic Sea, Iceland, and northeastern North America.

Atlantic puffins are a species of seabirds native to the northern and northeastern parts of the Atlantic.

Risso’s dolphins are a species of dolphins native to the coastlines of the world.

Wildlife of North Macedonia

Macedonia is officially referred to as North Macedonia since 2019. It is a landlocked European county in the southeastern part of the continent. The country is bordered by the European countries of Greece, Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Albania.
Official National Animal

The Macedonian lion is featured on the Coat of Arms and is one of the oldest symbols in Europe.
Native animals

Balkan lynxes are a subspecies of Eurasian lynxes endemic to the Balkans. They make their homes in western North Macedonia. The Balkan lynx is one of the national symbols of this country and appears on the 5 Denar coin.

European ground squirrels are a species of squirrels native to eastern and southern Europe.

Brown bears are a large species of bears found all over Eurasia and North America.

Golden jackals are a species of canids resembling wolves. They’re native to eastern Europe and places in Asia.

Common raccoon dogs are a species of canids native to Asia and introduced to much of Europe.

Chamois are a species of goat-antelopes native to the mountain ranges of Europe.

European hares are a species of hares native to Europe and parts of Asia.

European wildcats are a small species of wildcats native to Europe, Scotland, Turkey, and the Caucasus.

Hermann’s tortoises are a species of tortoises native to southern and southeastern Europe.
