Wildlife of Lithuania

Lithuania is a European country that is located in the northeastern part of the continent, next to the Baltic Sea. It is one of the Baltic States with the other two being Estonia and Latvia. The country is bordered by Poland, Latvia, and Belarus. Its forests, wetlands, meadows, and fields are home to 45 mammal species, 9 reptile species, 13 amphibian species, 50 fish species, and 392 bird species.

Places to See Wild Animals

At Dzukija National Park you can find many gray wolves in the forest and around the wetlands.

It is also home to many elk.

As well as wild boars.

Aukstaitija National Park is home to white storks.

Krekenava Regional Park is home to European bison.

Animals Native to Lithuania

Eurasian beavers also called European beavers are a species found in central and eastern Europe and western and central Asia.

Moose are the largest and heaviest species of deer in the world. They have very broad antlers and inhabit boreal and temperate broadleaf and mixed forests of the Northern Hemisphere.

Stoats are also called ermines or short-tailed weasels.

Red foxes are the most widely distributed species of carnivores in the world.  

Eurasian lynxes are medium-species of wild cats that are native to northern, eastern, and central Europe.

European badgers are a species of badger native to Europe and the Middle East.

European pine martens are a species of mustelid native to Europe, the Caucasus, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and western Russia.

European hedgehogs are a species of hedgehog native to most of Europe, the Iberian Peninsula, the British Isles, and Scandinavia.

Birds

Great cormorants are a large species of birds native to a wide range in the Northern Hemisphere.

Ospreys are found on any continent but Oceania. They are large raptors.

Marine Animals

Eurasian otters are a species of semi-aquatic mammals native to much of Eurasia, southeastern Asia, northwestern Africa, and the Indian subcontinent.

Harbor porpoises make their homes near river estuaries and coastal areas.

Gray seals are a large species of seals native to both shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

Wildlife of Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a small landlocked country in Western Europe. Officially it is known as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The country borders Belgium to the west, Germany to the east, and France to the south. It is known for its rich farmland and wine-producing region. It is a hilly country with craggy mountains and many rivers and streams.

Central European boars are a subspecies of wild boars, They’re widespread in Europe. They're held in high esteem by the Celts and featured in Germanic, Scandinavian, and Anglo-Saxon cultures.

Central European red deer are a subspecies of red deer native to central Europe. They’re important in European folklore and culture and are a symbol of nobility.

Eurasian wolves are a subspecies of gray wolves native to Europe and Russia.

Red foxes can be found almost anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere. They’re one of the most widespread species of carnivore in the world.

European wildcats are a small species of wildcats native to some parts of Europe. 

European moles are a species of mammals native to Western, Central, and Eastern Europe and the UK.

European polecats are a species of mustelids native to Western Europe and North Africa.

Beech martens are a species of martens native to Europe and Central Asia.

Birds

Common cranes are a species of cranes native to much of Europe and the northern half of Asia.

Black storks are a large species of storks that can be found throughout much of Eurasia. 

Purple herons are a large species of wading birds native to Central and Southern Europe.

European honey buzzards are a species of birds of prey found across much of the Old World.

Barn owls are the most widely distributed species of owls on the planet.
