Wildlife of Qatar

Qatar is a small Asian-African country in the western part of the continent. It is located on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula and is one of the smallest countries in Asia. Many of the animals in Qatar are endangered or extinct in the wild.

Aurochs are relatives of cows. These animals are very large.

Native Animals

Arabian gazelles live in protected reserves and it is illegal to hunt them in the country.

Qatar has the highest density of camels in all of the Middle East.

Desert long-eared bats are one of two species of bats in Qatar.

Desert hedgehogs are a species of mammals native to the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa.

Indian gray mongooses are a species of mongoose native to the Indian subcontinent and Western Asia.

Birds

North African ostriches are a subspecies of the common ostriches native to North and West Africa. They are the largest birds on the planet

Marine Animals

Green sea turtles are a species of aquatic turtles native to tropical and subtropical seas around the world. They come to nest on the coasts and islands of Qatar

Wildlife of Saudi Arabia

Located on the Arabian Peninsula Saudi Arabia is a large country located in the Middle East. It has diverse habitats that include mountains, deserts, hills, valleys, volcanoes, lakes, and islands.

Official National Animal

Arabian or Dromedary camel one-humped.

Hamadryas babbons can be found in the Hijaz Mountains.

In the Asir Mountains, you can spot the rare Arabian leopards.

Native Animals

Caracals are a medium species of wild cats.

Arabian tahrs are a species of wild goats native to the eastern parts of the Arabian Peninsula.

Honey badgers are a species of mammal widely distributed.

Birds

Griffon vultures are a large species of Old World vultures found in Saudi Arabia on the cliffs of the Asir Mountains.

Marine Animals

Dugongs are a large species of marine mammals native to Indo-Pacific coastlines.

Great white pelicans are a very large species of birds native to parts of Asia like the Arabian Peninsula

Wildlife of Singapore

Singapore is a small Asian island county in the southeastern part of the continent. It is located off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and is one of the smallest Asian countries. It is surrounded by the Indian Ocean.

Native Animal

Crab-eating macaques

Finlayson’s squirrels are the only introduced mammals in Singapore. They live in canopies and feed on fruit.

Sunda clouded leopards are a medium species of wild cats that are native to Sumatra and Borneo.

Malayan tapirs can be seen in Singapore and are native to southeastern Asia from the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra. They lived in tropical lowland forests.

Raffles’ banded langurs are a species of primates endemic to Singapore and the southern parts of the Malay Peninsula.

Asian elephants are the only elephants living outside of Africa.

Sunda pangolins are a species of pangolins native to southeastern Asia.

Sunda flying lemurs glide from tree to tree. They are a species of colugo. These lemurs can be found in many areas of Singapore.

Birds

Crimson sunbirds are a species of birds found in southern and southeastern Asia. They feed exclusively on nectar.

Eastern imperial eagles are a large species of birds of prey found throughout Asia.

Marine Animals

Smooth-coated otters make their homes in southern and southeastern Asia. You can find them in mangroves, along coasts, rivers, canals, and lakes.

Saltwater crocodiles are the most dangerous large animals in Singapore.

Asian water monitors are a large species of varanid native to southeastern and southern Asia. They live in habitats close to water sources.

Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins can be seen around the Straits of Johor and the Singapore Strait. They are found in the coastal waters of the western Pacific Ocean and the eastern Indian Ocean.

Dugongs are a large species of marine mammals found in the Indo-West Pacific. They lived in the Straits of Johor and the Singapore Strait. Their closest relatives are manatees.
