Amazing Animals Central African Republic
Wildlife of Central Africa

The Central African Republic, or CAR, is almost exactly in the center of the African continent. It is a landlocked country bordered by Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Sudan, and Chad. Its landscape is a combination of grasslands, savannas, and rainforests. Making their homes here are 731 species of birds, 209 species of mammals, 29 species of amphibians, and 187 types of reptiles.
African forest buffaloes are also referred to as dwarf buffaloes or Congo buffaloes. They inhabit rainforests. They have reddish-brown hides and curved horns.

This buffalo has a recognizable reddish-brown hide as well as curved horns that are much smaller than those of their savannah counterparts.

African forest elephants are among the most popular animals. They’re a symbol of might and pride.

African wild dogs are a species of wild canines native to sub-Saharan Africa. They are the largest canines on the continent. To feed its young, the African wild dog regurgitates food and allows them to feed first on carcasses.

Blue duikers are an unusual species of antelope that are native to central, eastern, and southern Africa. These animals are quite small and are a monogamous species living in pairs. They inhabit dense forests.

Bongos are a species of antelope that are native to central and western Africa. They are forest ungulates active at night. These animals have distinctive white stripes on their reddish-brown coats. They are herbivores.
Chimpanzees are very emblematic animals in Africa. They are closely related to bonobos and live in groups of 15 to 150 members. These animals are unpredictable, strong, and tend to be aggressive.

Kordofan giraffes are a subspecies of giraffes with scattered populations. They are relatively small.

Lions are among the most popular animals. These large cats are native to Africa and India. They inhabit savannas and grasslands. They are carnivores that search for prey and are active during the day.

Northwest African cheetahs are a subspecies of cheetahs native to the Sahei and the Sahara. They have shorter and whiter coats and smaller bodies when compared to other African cheetahs. They are nocturnal hunters, and their diet consists of gazelles, antelopes, and hares.

Northern white rhinoceroses are a subspecies of white rhinos. At this time there are only two known individuals. The two females, Fatu and Najin, are constantly protected by armed guards.

Pennant’s red colobuses are a species of primates endemic to tropical Central Africa. They live in trees. They have small heads and robust bodies with long limbs. Their long fingers have a powerful grip for climbing about among the branches, but they have no thumbs.

Sitatungas are also referred to as marsh bucks. They are a species of antelope living in swamps in most of central Africa. They are most active after dawn, before dusk, and at night.

Spotted hyenas are also known as laughing hyenas. They are among the most successful species in Africa. They feed on whatever they can find, from small mammals to bigger prey.

Tree pangolins are one of eight species of pangolins on Earth. They are the most common African subspecies of forest pangolins. They have prehensile tails for balance. They walk on all fours and have poor eyesight.

Western lowland gorillas are iconic animals native to Central Africa. They are the smallest subspecies of gorillas. As primarily herbivorous, the main diet of western lowland gorilla groups is roots, shoots, fruit, wild celery, tree bark, and pulp, which is provided for in the thick forest of Central and West Africa. During the wet season gorillas commonly consume fruits.
Birds

Cattle egrets are a species of herons native to tropical, subtropical, and other warm zones. These birds nest in colonies around bodies of water. Their diet is made of insects such as beetles, crickets, moths, and grasshoppers and spiders, fish, snakes, and frogs.

Great white pelicans are huge birds living near water sources. They dine on fish.

Common ostriches are the largest birds on Earth. They are flightless but can run extremely fast. They dine on plant matter but might also feed on small reptiles and invertebrates. These birds can be seen in groups of 5 to 50.
Aquatic Animals

Giant otter shrews are semi-aquatic animals. They inhabit the main rainforest block of Central Africa. These animals are carnivores and feed at night on fish, crabs, and frogs.

Nile crocodiles are large crocodiles native to freshwater areas in Africa. They mostly feed on fish, mammals, birds, and reptiles.
