India and Pakistan have had an uneasy relationship since their partition in 1947, marked by three major wars and numerous border skirmishes, primarily over the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite periods of diplomatic engagement, mutual distrust remained high.

In the years leading up to 2025, tensions flared repeatedly across the Line of Control (LoC), with frequent ceasefire violations, cross-border attacks, and accusations of state-sponsored terrorism.
