I wrote this article 2 weeks ago. Is about the word metacognition. Is a combination between a Greek preposition and an substantive. The association of the preposition, it is miss-used. I was wondering about it, and spoke with my friend. Of course saying meta means something superior, as ist is commonly used today, it's preposterous. And still, there are a lot of words, from philosophical world and psychological world, using regularly the preposition meta. IN a very wrong context!

It was possible, somehow, in some way, and there is nothing to do. The worst is still to come. We all know who is META today as company for platforms online! So, the idea of authority and power, based on a wrong used of a preposition, or word if you prefer, is not at all so wrong.

Is just an example, how a little thing, not dealt with in useful time, became something bigger and bigger! In a very wrong way. Now, there is the Bible. Where a lot of words have been translated and or interpretated, very wrong!

Now, of course many of us, sometimes, 'stumble', on those kind of notions! How to not see?? I t is wrong to write about ? Is somehow negative for Vocal? No idea/ In 10 days, i never had a real concrete answer from them. Certainty, the 2A part from the article:''The power of branding, and the creation of an illusion of higher level authority! Part 2 A'', was never published! God only knows why. The replay at my request, remains invariably nul; my post was not accepted, as does not respect all the rules of the platform. Actually it does. But, no one takes the time, neither to read probably all, neither to specify, which from the 30 rules , from the 10 pages A4 format, i infringe!

Yesterday i wrote another article. Invariably, refused that too! I say 30-40articles on this platform at least, that use less that 600 wordss. Use enumerations. Use bullets points. Use dialogue. Use no original photos. So what on earth might be wrong with my articles, is beyound me. And of course, when one try to make a real flow of readers, Vocal, in place to help, just hinder ! Wonder why! My article have substance.

Are not shallow, and i am not hear to call me a publisher, just to make a title from it. It is already enough, that one cannot really format the article on Vocal, if does not pay a monthly subscription! Well, all of people here, are publishing because need to make an income, even a smal one, from writing!

What has become platforms nowadays? Why someone simple like me has no chance to have a platform for bloggers? Why chances goes always to whom already has power and money ? And does not promote the creativity really ?

Beyond me! I just hope, this one article, will pass for good, and everyone else can enjoy it. Friends reports to me regularly, they read my articles, especially during traveling to work. Still, looks like i have no click registered on Vocal. And whilst the system is not even 0.0000005 % transparent, we still have the good hope and heartly will , to publish here !

What is wrong with the world? What is wrong with Vocal? Where i have to knock, so that someone, really answer to me ? Hats off gentlemen! Victory has never been more a shallow word, like today! My best wishes to you all!

Here bellow, in last attemp, the midle pat of the abve intitulate article. Of course. As you all know, there are also other platforms for blogs. I transform those articles in short 30 minutes videos for youtube too. You can find me there. It is much appreciated for who like to read, something other than boring lines once in a while. I am like that too. It is also much of a probability , i will not continue in Vocal to publish, if they keep to refuse my subjects, without any real explanation. And no support whatsoever. Best wishes, again to you all!

I wonder why the choice of the word Metacognition. Why preposition Meta plus the word cognition? Somethings come to my ear and mind like a, shall i said so? A noise ?

It does sound a bit strange at first 'metacognition' has that slightly metallic, mechanical ring to it, like a word that was built in a lab rather than born in everyday speech. Let’s unpack it in a simple, human way.

Why the word 'metacognition' exists: the word comes from two parts: cognition means thinking; meta means 'about itself' or 'beyond'. So metacognition literally means “thinking about thinking.” Psychologists needed a word for this because they were studying not just how people think, but how people monitor their own thinking; how they check if they understood something; how they notice mistakes; how they plan their learning. Instead of inventing a long phrase every time, they created this compact term. The word was created to describe the ability to observe and manage your own thinking.

Why it sounds strange or noisy? You’re not alone in feeling that “meta + cognition” sounds artificial. It’s because the prefix meta is used in many technical fields — metaphysics; metadata; metalinguistics — and it often signals a step back, a layer above, a kind of self‑reference. That can feel abstract or cold. When you hear “metacognition,” your mind may react to the “meta” part as something distant or overly intellectual, almost like a buzz or a vibration rather than a natural word. The word feels noisy because “meta” is a technical prefix that creates distance and abstraction.

Why psychologists chose this word anyway?

Psychology needed a precise term for a very specific mental ability. They wanted to separate simple thinking from the higher‑level process of evaluating your thinking. “Meta” was the quickest way to express that second layer. It’s not poetic, but it’s efficient. And once a term becomes standard in research, it tends to stay, even if it sounds odd to the ear. The term stuck because it’s precise and useful in scientific language.

Over time, especially in philosophy and science, it took on a second meaning: 'about itself'. Over time, people misunderstood this as 'beyond physics', and the meaning shifted. Later still, in modern science and logic, “meta” became a convenient way to say 'a level above' or 'about' itself. The modern English 'meta' is basically a new word wearing an old Greek costume. That misunderstanding became fashionable. You get a hybrid word that sounds scientific but is not faithful to its roots.

I see this as a classic example of how academic language can drift away from real linguistic roots: a Western philosophical invention wearing a Greek mask. It makes something sound elevated. It began as a linguistic accident, but it evolved into a symbol of 'higher‑level thinking'.

I see this as a perfect example of how language, culture, and power interact. A simple Greek preposition was misunderstood by philosophers, adopted by academics, inflated by modern culture, and finally turned into a corporate empire’s brand. The result is a word that carries a false sense of depth and authority. Your instinct is absolutely correct: cognition fits; meta does not.  But the world now uses meta as a symbol, not as Greek.

To pity an entire tradition of philosophy based its highlighting concepts on that miss-association! See you on the next!
