Judge blocks Trump administration’s move to end protection status for Haitians

Haitians on Temporary Protective Status (TPS) might be scrambling for their rights in the US. If they have any. The amount of people who had traveled to America after the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 might breathe a sigh of relief as Judge Ana Yeyes has moved to keep people in the country.

When the case came across her desk, she temporarily blocked the motion so that she could allow legal immigrants to live here. This idea is to create a safe haven for Haitians.

In all of this, this is the latest example of how the courts can impede the encroaching policies against Americans and those who wish to be naturalized. The history of Haiti is fraught with many perils. As the only nation in history to have a slave revolt and win against the mother country, France.

As individuals, the Haitians ought to be honored to live here as tethers, though. They should want to work and grow families in the noblest nation ever devised.

What TPS ought to do is continue to serve as a safeguard for citizens who have struggled to come to this land. It’s a cry in the dark but a clear one at that. In an era where then presidential nominee Donald Trump claimed that Haitians were eating pets, we see the lunacy behind all of this activity.

For Haitians to enter through the gates of this sacred land over a decade ago, they should become Americans. All of them should earn the status of being under one nation, under reason.

Their roles as people who have fought and some died to get here should not be overlooked or tarnished. As brave people committed to improving the lives for themselves and loved ones, they should be lauded and applauded for their efforts.

Judge Reyes is an example of a patriot who saw through the nonsense and halted Trump’s plans. She should be nominated for a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Of course, we’ll have to wait to see in a future administration if she will receive such an honor.

But as it stands, she is an extraordinary American. This is the beauty of our nation. Trump is a little tyrant. He can’t be a full-blown dictator because of the judicial branch of our government. Instead of being with his buddy Putin, he actually has to see if judges agree or in this case, disagree with his stances.

As Haitians and other sectors of the populace rejoice in the fact that justice has been served (for the moment) they should still strive to be smart workers and rights-respecting individuals.

It took a while for people to realize that Haiti is such a pesthole that it hindered the progress for other Americans to see the truth. It wasn’t just the earthquake but the economic system that has disrupted that country. It actually continues to this day. So, for anyone ready to improve their lives, they should be encouraged to fight for their journey to these shores.

In the time that it takes to go through all of the barriers to live in America, there is a terrible sense that free men and women experience on a daily basis.

America is in no way perfect. It’s like an A- though. Especially, compared to most places on the planet, that grade may be upgraded to an A+, like a 98% or so on the grading scale. If people want to join the party, let ‘em. Let them in here. As Inspectah Deck once said, “we got stick up kids, corrupt cops, and cracks…the block stays hot.” And remember that this is America, the home of serial killers, mass shootings, and Happy Meals. The country has its problems but even in writing this sentence, scores of folks traverse barbed wire, highly caffeinated, trigger happy ICE agents, and a president who doesn’t really care about us.
