The Parents

Parents and child (pexels.com)

Who and what are parents? Are parents teachers? Are they caregivers? Are they confidants? Are they friends? Could parents be all of these? I think parents are there to give instruction as teachers, but they are also there to listen to what we have to say as we should listen to what they have to say and hopefully learn from them. Parents are caregivers in a sense as well for they changed our diapers when we were babies and showed us right from wrong, and a whole lot more. They could be confidants for us when we wanted to share various kinds of information, but could they also be our friends too.

Parents as friends does work out when the kids grow up, but the kids even as adults could use parental influences at times. Say to ask what to do about someone who the kids work with in their jobs. Parents can give us advice, but it's up to the child as an adult what to do with it or not. Parents know that growing up in the world is hard to do and that we kids and all people just need a little help once in a while. In today's society parents and children do need to have a little more patience it seems, but with things being instantaneous and getting everything we want we don't always get what we really need and that is a parents' respect and love for us.

Parents and children need to work together to figure out what each of us needs and wants. This will be hard but what is really easy in this new age of humanity. If all else fails parents and children of all ages will just look up and pray to the Lord Almighty for the guidance and support that we all need and hopefully use some way. I hope this essay and critique on parents and children makes sense in a way and that you take away something from it.

Mark, I have 4 grown children...and they didn't come with directions, but that would have been handy. I'm 70 yrs old now and still pray for them and the grandkids now, too. Loved your story!
