So I watched Wednesday...again

Chapter Two Spoilers Ahead

By Parsley Rose Published 4 months ago 3 min read

This week, I watched Wednesday, Season Two Part Two on Netflix and I have more notes than I did when I first watched Wednesday on Netflix in 2022. Someone told me to watch The Vanity Fair interview on YouTube because my theory corresponds with something Jenna Ortega had said in the interview.

Everything in Season Two Part Two takes place inside of Wednesday Addams' head after waking up from a coma after being thrown out a window. I think Wednesday was actually thrown into a safe room inside her head and woke up with D.I.D. and partial psychoactive activity related to being on drugs prescribed to her after waking up.

The not-so-gray aspects of these psychoenergetic pills that we know are in the background of the story being portrayed on the screen are that the scenes where she is on an upper there are much more warmer tones in how the camera is telling the story and then there are greyer scales and tones in how the camera is directing the downer side-effects to the drugs Wednesday is on.

Everyone in Wednesday Season Two Part Two is a different variation of Wednesday after waking up from her coma. Or in my full analysis of the second half of the season, became co-conscious with herself in healing after coming to terms with being thrown out of a window. I saw a lot of similarities in how I had become right after going back to school after my head injury and how much of it made sense to the story I was seeing unfold around Wednesday episode six through eight, and how relatable that all got after experiencing a bad trip while watching it.

Wednesday has D.I.D.

Wednesday Addams has a break in her personality as she tries to reconnect with everyone she had become friends with in Nevermore after waking up from a coma and returning to school, Wednesday exhibits signs of Mental distress as she goes through her daily life after the fact.

Each one of Wednesday's Alters is depicted by the other character when Wednesday is seen both on and off-screen. These alters are played by Enid Sinclaire, Wednesday Addams, and Agnes Demille. This part of the theory takes place in episodes six and seven, respectively. Starting with waking up in each other's respective roles, Wednesday in Enid's body depicts the role of Persecutor, while Enid in Wednesday's body depicts a much softer, innocent role, like a Caretaker, these two roles help each other in the inner world when body and brain are in recovery, from anything, especially trauma.

In D.I.D. theory, a Persecutor alter often carries anger and protective aggression, while a Caretaker alter focuses on nurturing and protection through gentleness. The concept of these parts "switching" or appearing in different contexts can be seen after Enid's mental state appeared as Agnes Demille as Wednesday grappled the new feelings of being in a name she wasn't before.

Throughout episodes seven and eight, as Wednesday recovers and works with Enid to "switch back" we see this part of Wednesday poke through Enid as she belittles her friend Agnes and begin to see the "Little", Wednesday, Agnis appears to be protecting start to crumble as the story plays out. Agnes going to a support group and falling into the littlehood she appears to be defending; just another shrill design to make you ponder as thoughts of what reincarnation might still have been in the last episode of season one cloud my head.

So when Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams in the Netflix adaptation with the same name said "What if it all takes place inside of Wednesday's mind?" I got really excited by what I saw and how that felt watching another adaptation of this very real brain recovery concept unfold around itself.

All episodes of Season Two are out now.
