Materialists, more like wtf did I watch
A review about the movie materialists

Hello, hello
On the other day me and my best friend decided that we needed to have a movie night, and, because we both really like romcoms (romantic comedies) the movie that was chosen was "Materialists" we both watched the trailer liked it and everyone and their mother was talking how this was going to be the romcom of the year.
I want my money back. It wasn't a romcom, I don't know who decided to edit the trailer that way and who decided that they should do all the marketing in the same way you would do for a romcom. But first I'm going to tell about the story of the movie, with mild spoilers.
The characthers
First, our main character, Lucy. She is a matchmaker, a successful one, that after securing another marriage of one of her clients is invited to said wedding. She boasts how she will only marry a rich man, because she saw what having financial struggles did to her parents marriage and doesn't want the same to happen to her. In the wedding she meets...
Harry, a tall, charming, handsome bachelor that is also rich. He is smitten by Lucy and flirts with her and asks her out. First she doesn't accept the invitation by saying he could do better than her. They end up dating after many dates in expensives restaurants and gifted flowers bouquets.
John, is also at the wedding. He is Lucy's ex-boyfriend that is an actor (not that successful) that works part time as a catereer. And because fate is a funny thing he is working on the wedding that Lucy attended leading to them catching up on life since their breakup.
The plot
It's a love triangle. There's nothing wrong with that, Lucy is torn between the man that will allow her to live with financial liberty (Harry), but then there's John that is poor yes, but has a good heart and loves her still after all this years.
My problem with the movie
Let's start with the subplot of rape. Everything is going well and suddenly one of Lucy's clients is raped she blames her and the company and decides to sue them. I think that sueing is one of those things that would happen in real life but it didn't make sense. The matchmakers can't read minds, they don't know if the person they are matching is a good person or not. I just didn't think that it added a lot to the story. And Lucy never tells Harry, that is her boyfriend at the time what's happening! Hated that part.
Did you know that there is a surgery that can make you taller? If I didn't know when I watched the movie I would, because one of the characters had it. Whem Lucy discovers it's a scene that looked like it was supposed to be tense? I just laughed because the whole dialogue was ridiculous. I was waiting to hear the laughing sound track. "Are you breaking up with me because of my legs?" it's a real sentence said in this movie.
I don't have anything against the main female characther ending with the broke guy. Love is love and all that. But, when they don't tell us why they started dating, the only flashbacks that we have are of them fighting, I find myself having problems with that. Only in the end of the movie, is that John decides that maybe, he should try to find ways to earn more money so that he could leave is shitty shared apartment. That yes he is an actor but booking a comercial once in a while it's not the end of the world. He decided that, not after is girlfriend at the time (Lucy) breaks up with him because of money, but years later. He stayed in the same situation all those years!
In conclusion
I didn't like it. My main problem was feeling tricked by the trailer, you can make a romantic drama all you want, but don't go around press saying that the movie is a romcom. The characthers didn't feel deep, something was missing. I finished the movie without knowing why Lucy and John fell in love in the first place.

And you? Did you watch, are going to watch the "Materialists?
See ya,

You thought "Materialists" was a romcom? It had a rape subplot! That's way off. Trailer and marketing were misleading.
