Jay-Z's Phone Call With Michael Eric Dyson Is Causing Quite The Stir
Author Michael Eric Dyson continues to defend his controversial take on Kendrick Lamar and Drake's rap beef.

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson aka “Soul Glo” jumped on Akademiks live and explained his position on the Drake vs Kendrick Lamar feud. His appearance detailed his conversation with Jay-Z concerning their disagreement with what the battle was really about.
He stated that Jay-Z presented himself articulately and provided information to back his claims. It’s just weird that the doctor has now become a mouthpiece for rap and hip hop more so than ever. He has written books on both Tupac Shakur and Jay-Z also. His position on what goes on in the rap genre is particularly trenchant given that he does a great deal of research and knows how to speak plainly and with elevated diction all in the same breath.

He claims that “They Not Like Us” is the prime example for President Trump’s agenda. It recalls the days of segregation of public spaces and says that people should be excluded because they’re not of the same color, ethnicity, or some other nonessential. As a Canadian, Drake is very much unlike his peers. The fact that he’s light skinned only compounds the reality.
Dr. Dyson went on to say that there must be caution before you suggest someone is a pedophile in a rap record. There has to be some level of accountability attached to the rap realm. The doctor’s opinion varies from Hov’s. They’re still respectful towards each other despite the mild friction.
In what has become arguably the biggest rap feud of all time, it shows that there is a distinction between the elders in the game and the YNs who just want to crash out and go bucwild in the streets.
This is a plea for sanity among the rappers. Dr. Dyson is an example of someone who has proven to be a man who can speak professorily and at the street level. His diction is always on point and he has the arrogance to properly address whatever situation in which he finds himself.
It just happened to be a phone call with Jay-Z this time. While he discussed none of the specific details of the call, he outlined how there is a division between the intellectual world and rap. Sometimes they intersect with colleges inviting people like Lupe Fiasco to teach classes among others. But there is a dearth in the rules and guidelines that academia and entertainment encompass.
For his role, Dr. Dyson has shown himself to be a man of wisdom and knowledge despite his forays into spouting rap lyrics and always trying to get his shine on whenever the camera starts rolling. The actual idea behind this whole thoughtful quagmire is that Jay is always going to have a say in what goes on in the Super Bowl concert. At least for the foreseeable future. Dr. Dyson is just critical of Kendrick because he is such a fanatic of his, allegedly.
He would’ve liked to see Kung Fu Kenny be more objective about his approach to Drake.

If one takes apart the feud, Dr. Dyson would be right. He didn’t have the capabilities to foster a career in which he could be a hip hop star, but he knows the game. He knows the way that he has taken on his whole identity as an elder statesman in the culture at large. He has brought his ideals with him to the ear of one of the most successful names in the business.
For them to be able to discuss matters without rancor or bitterness is the hallmark of men of color hashing out differences and still retaining respect for one another. In their capacities to critique and celebrate one another, they have the power to discover their notions of right and wrong together.
In a world where everything is artificial and it’s difficult to discern what is and what isn’t real; when there are people who wish ill will upon the genre and look to those leaders for direction, they find it in figures like Shawn Carter and Michael Eric Dyson. As to black men can converse and decide why it doesn't sit well with one individual and the other can say it’s alright with them, that’s the true moment where time stands still.
The Baptist minister and the hustler from Brooklyn can get together over a phone call and still respect one another. This shouldn’t be surprising, but somehow it just rings of verisimilitude. And that word is for the doctor who can use it and “ain’t” altogether and make it work. That’s the power behind his wording and the substance of his speech.
