When I was in high school I mainly took the business/commercial courses from typing to bookkeeping to shorthand and a few other clerical subjects. This was during the early 1980's. Taking Shorthand was kind of fun for it was like solving codes.

Gregg is using various symbols to phonetically spell words

Reading these phonetic spellings is like solving a code

Editing thoughts of bosses

Gaining speed in writing

Gaining accuracy in reading

Shorthand of various symbols of words and phrases shortened

Hearing and writing together

Organization of material

Reading that material

Taking dictation of various materials

Handwriting in a faster mode

Attention and listening

Naturally a skill that could still be used in some ways

Driven to improve other skills.
