Introduction

A couple of weeks ago, I found out that I got AppleTV+ with my bank account. I have used it to watch a few things but two weeks ago my friend Les saw it at the cinema and told us how good it was. I saw it was on AppleTV+ and, though it is not my normal thing, decided to watch it. Some of the actors and the writer/director Steve McQueen drew me to it.

The actors are Saoirse Rona, Steven Graham, Kathy Burke and Paul Weller. Paul Weller impressed me and Saoise Ronan has a great voice on her when she sings.

There was only the trailer available which impressed me, but the film dropped last Friday.

The details of the film are here, but I will share my impressions of it without giving anything away.

Blitz, My Impressions

This is the story of George who is evacuated from his mum and grandad in London during the Second World War. George does not want to go

At home and on the train George is subjected to racist abuse and slurs, but he is strong and deals with things, even impressing a girl on the train.

The racism throws me back to growing up in the sixties when racism was rife and treated as the norm, although I detested it. Even this century when my uncle's wife came over from New Zealand she said she loved it because it was like England in the fifties and the non-whites knew their place. She didn't use the word non-whites and I have never spoken to her since.

There is a lot of that in the film, and though we are in more enlighted times there is still racism in many forms in today's society. This film hammers it home.

When George decides to find his way home, he sets off on a personal Odyssey, makes friends and actually has some fun along with some difficult moments, but he shows great strength.

He is taken in by a horrible Dickensian gang led brilliantly by Stephen Graham, and once again George manages to wriggle free of their clutches.

The special effects are brilliant and you really feel for the people who were subjected to those bombing raids.

This a story of strength and hope in very difficult circumstances, and ultimately sends a positive message.

I will not say how it ends, but I found it very comforting.

If you get the chance this is well worth a couple of hours of your time

I don't think I've ever seen anything directed by Steve Mcqueen. What else did he direct?

Sounds like a movie I would want to catch. Will try Apple TV.

  • I feel so sad for George. Also, your uncle's wife doesn't seem to be a nice person ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
