William Carson Sentenced to 16 years For Shooting Kids Who Threw Snowballs at His Car
William Carson was sentenced on Feb 3, 2023.

On Friday, February 3, a Milwaukee man who had been found guilty of firing at children who hurled snowballs at his automobile received a 16-year prison term.
Prosecutors sought a sentence of 25 years in jail. The victims penned a message saying they had emotional and physical traumas that plague them, and that they had to leave the state after the shooting.
William Carson was found guilty in November of all seven charges brought against him in relation to the 2020 incident, including two counts of first-degree reckless injury and five counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

Carson received a 10-year prison term as well as extended supervision. Carson was given prison terms that coincide with the most serious accusation by Judge Michael Hanrahan. Attorneys had requested a 25-year jail sentence.
Carson had requested leniency from the judge by stating, "I'm requesting leniency in my sentencing. I'm pleading for leniency in my sentencing "Carson stated. "I'm missing my family. I miss my children." The Judge, however, pounced on him, saying, "There is this other part of you that is impulsive, dangerous, violent - I suppose self-centered,"
Background
On January 4, 2020, a group of children were allegedly hurling snowballs at passing cars while playing in the snow near 61st and Birch on Milwaukee's north side.
According to the lawsuit, the driver oft at one of the hit vehicles turned back, got out, and fired bullets at the children as they tried to flee. The man then climbed back into his vehicle and sped off. Later, Carson was revealed to be that driver.

Three of the seven youngsters involved, according to the complaint, were shot. One of the kids took a bullet to the thigh, while another took one to the arm. A third child was not hurt, however a bullet grazed their garment.
On Friday, February 3, during sentencing, body camera footage showing police officers caring for one of the children was aired in court. At Carson's sentence, the mother of one of the children also spoke.
"You really hurt us, and I really want you to pay for what you did to my family," said Monique Wilbourn.
According to the victims, they have emotional and physical scars that haunt them. Some even relocated out of state as a result of the incident.

Carson was apprehended by Oak Creek police after fleeing officers and being caught driving under the influence. A gun was found in his car by police, and testing determined that it was "very probable" that it was the same gun used in the Jan. 4 incident.
The US Department of Justice did a firearm trace on the pistol and discovered that Carson bought it 11 days before the shooting. Carson told authorities that he bought the gun for self-defense and that no one else had ever had control of it since he bought it.
