"Stop laughing!" he barked, struggling to suppress his anger as he was pulling up his pants, hurriedly trying to fasten the fly.

She did, for a second, only to look at him with disgust mixed with pity. His heart sank. He didn't need her pity! He needed her love. She started to laugh again, loudly and meanly.

"Did you try to impress me with that, dear uncle?" she pointed her index finger at his fly and laughed again. It was unbearable.

"Stop laughing!" he demanded again, buckling up his belt. It was clear to him she's gone too far and that infuriated him. "How dare you!"

"How dare I??? No, how dare you!" Her eyes were shooting arrows of hatred and contempt. "Did you really think showing me THAT would stop me from going to the man I love? I'm going to get engaged to him! What did you hope for?" she chuckled and started to move toward the door.

He couldn't let her leave. Not like that.

"But I love you! I have never loved anyone like you before! I won't be able to live without you!" he pleaded desperately, standing in her way and blocking the door.

"Just look at you! So pathetic! And they call you their leader! If only they saw you right now, hiding your tiny dick and pleading like a child! I hate you! Just let me go!"

This was too much. He swung his fist at her and heard the crunch of her broken nose. She shrieked in pain, fell on the floor and started to nurse her nose with her both hands, throwing the looks of rage and disbelief at him. They went like daggers into his heart. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her.

He dropped on his knees next to her, "I'm so sorry, my love! I didn't mean to..." He tried to hug and kiss her on the forehead like he always did, but she didn't let him, forcefully turning his face away with her hand.

She saw the blood transferred by her hand onto his face and started to laugh again. "Now you have my blood on you, dear uncle! What a strong powerful man you are, to hit me like this! So pathetic! Get away from me!" She started to get up, pushing him away. "Let me go!"

"I can't let you go! You're mine!" he cried out, grabbing her feet.

"No, I'm not! I'm in love with another man and will have his child!" she replied firmly, tearing away from him. She got up and looked down at him. Her beautiful face was defiant and determined.

He quickly got up on his feet and faced her, furious. Trying to hold her, he squeezed her wrists so tight his knuckles went white. "You are pregnant? By him???"

"Obviously, not by you!!! Could you ever get anyone pregnant, dear uncle? With that tiny dick?" She chuckled with contempt again and managed to wring her wrists out of his grip. Suddenly, a realization lighted her face, "Wait a second, are you still a virgin? Did you hope that I would be your first?"

He was taken aback. How did she come to this? It was the truth, she was his last hope to acquire love. He'd thought that because of their relationship she would be more understanding to his plight. Instead, she was just laughing! His hands started to shake.

"But I love you!" he pleaded again.

"Of course you do, because I was your last hope, wasn't I? Well, too bad, because I don't love you, dear uncle!" He just now realized that "dear uncle" was not her usual term of endearment but a mockery. She turned to leave.

"Please, stop!" he pleaded again, jumping in front of her to block the door. "Stay, please! I'll forgive you and even adopt your baby! No one will ever know it's not mine!"

"Oh yes, they will, because I'm going to tell everyone if you don't let me go right now!" she shouted, wiping the blood from her nose off her hands on her dress. "He'll forgive me, what a joke!"

He had a sudden flashback to about three years before, when he purported intimacy with the only other woman who also laughed at his size and ridiculed him. She had to be silenced because she'd also threatened to tell everyone. A wave of rage went through his body like an electric shock.

He forcefully turned her away from the door and threw her onto the bed. Everything seemed hostile to him now, even this bright room in pale pink and white they lovingly put together for her. He hated everything.

He went for his jacket hanging on the chair and pulled out his gun. She was now sitting on her bed, facing him defiantly. The sight of the gun did not scare her. She grinned and said, "So you are going to kill me now?"

"Yes! If you are not going to be mine, you are not going to be his either!" he said, trying to steady the gun in his trembling hand, aiming at her heart.

She laughed again, louder and meaner than before, and dared him, "Just do it already, you pathetic little man!"

***

Rudolf Hess heard the gunshot on his way to the apartment, coming back from an errand Hitler sent him on earlier. He rushed to Geli's bedroom and saw his Fuhrer sitting on Geli's bed, holding his niece's dead body, sobbing and repeating, "Why did you laugh, Geli? Why couldn't you just stay?" It was Hess who helped Hitler devise the coverup plan, sent him to Munich for a political meeting, and left it for Hitler's household staff to "discover" Geli's body the next morning, September 19, 1931.

Author's Note: I think the recently published results of Hitler's DNA analysis finally solve the mystery of his half-niece's "suicide." This story is an attempt to reconstruct their last conversation and quarrel over Geli's intent to leave for Vienna to get engaged to another man. This intent was clearly stated in Geli's letter to her friend in Vienna who'd expected her arrival on September 18, 1931.

The way you blend historical fact with narrative imagination makes the story feel both immediate and hauntingly plausible.

I didn't know he killed his niece, but it's not surprising. He was a monster. Poor Geli

Honestly, at first I was disgusted with the fact that an uncle had shown his niece his privates, and was about to stop reading. Her defiance is what kept me glued to the story and the punchline linked to a possibly historical event delivered.

Interesting, Lana. I didn't know about this. I think your evocation of the possible last moments was great.

  • Ewww, it's even more disgusting as she was his niece! But did he really have a tiny dick? Lol

Shocking story and reminded me of Robert Carlisle’s portrayal of Hitler’s controlling obsession with his niece. Well imagined and powerful historical fiction.
