Whispers Beyond the Veil Chapter 3: Uncovering the Past
Chapter 3: Uncovering the Past

The night air felt heavy, as if the city itself sensed the tension between Arjun and Riya. After their unsettling meeting at the park, they both knew that time was slipping through their fingers. They needed to understand the warnings surrounding them—The Veil, the strange dreams, and the ominous messages. There had to be something, or someone, who could explain the connection they felt and the danger that seemed to follow.
A Strange Discovery

The next day, Riya decided to visit her grandmother’s old house in an older part of the city. Her grandmother, Leela, had always been a source of strange stories when Riya was a child. Among them was the tale of an impossible love affair—one that ended in tragedy. Leela never shared the full details, but now Riya wondered if there was more to the story than she had realized.
As Riya sorted through dusty photo albums and letters, a photograph caught her eye. It was a black-and-white picture of her grandmother standing beside a man she didn’t recognize. Riya squinted at the man—there was something familiar about his features. Beneath the photo was a note, written in faded ink: "Leela and Sameer – A love beyond time."

Sameer. The name tugged at something in her memory, though she couldn’t place it. But before she could search further, a letter fell from between the pages of the album. It was addressed to her grandmother, signed by someone named Arvind Mehta—the same last name as Arjun.
Her pulse quickened as she read:
"Dearest Leela,
I fear our love has brought shadows upon us. The book warned me, and I tried to fight it, but the choice must be made. If we cannot be together in this life, perhaps our souls will meet again in another.
Yours, always and forever,
Arvind"

Riya’s hands trembled as the pieces began to fall into place. Her grandmother’s lost love—Arvind Mehta—must have been related to Arjun. Their story, like hers and Arjun’s, seemed intertwined with The Veil.
She snapped a photo of the letter and sent it to Arjun with a message: "We need to talk. I think our families have been through this before."
Family Secrets Uncovered
Later that evening, Arjun sat with Riya in her apartment, holding the photograph and letter in his hands. The connection between their grandparents left him stunned.
"My uncle... Arvind. I barely know anything about him," Arjun admitted. "He disappeared long before I was born. No one ever talked about him, just that he left the family and never came back."
Riya nodded, her brow furrowed. "And my grandmother never told me what happened between them. I think they were in love, but something—or someone—kept them apart."
"It must have been The Veil," Arjun whispered. "They were probably warned, just like us."
"But they didn’t escape it," Riya said softly, her heart sinking. "The curse still followed them, and now... it’s following us."
A heavy silence fell between them as they absorbed the weight of their discovery. The love story that had begun decades ago between Arvind and Leela was playing out again—through them. And just like before, shadows threatened to tear them apart.
Arjun ran a hand through his hair, frustration bubbling inside him. "We have to find out what happened to them. If we know how their story ended, maybe we can change ours."
The Psychic’s Warning
Desperate for answers, Arjun and Riya sought the help of a well-known psychic named Maaya. She lived in a crumbling apartment on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by strange trinkets and the smell of incense.
The moment they stepped into her home, Maaya’s eyes widened. "Ah... so it begins again," she whispered, as if she had been expecting them.
Arjun and Riya exchanged uneasy glances.
"You’ve come to break the loop," Maaya said, her voice raspy. "But be warned—every choice has a price. You must learn from those who came before you."
"Arvind and Leela," Riya whispered. "They were our grandparents. Do you know what happened to them?"
The psychic gave a sad smile. "Yes. Their love was true, but they refused to make the sacrifice. They chose to stay together, defying fate... and the shadows consumed them. Arvind vanished, and Leela was left behind—haunted by memories of a love that was never meant to be."
Arjun felt a chill crawl down his spine. "What kind of sacrifice are we supposed to make?"
Maaya’s gaze darkened. "One of you must leave, willingly. The book tests you—if you stay together at twilight, the shadows will come for you, just as they did for Arvind and Leela. But if one of you chooses to walk away..."
"...the curse will break?" Riya asked, though her voice wavered with uncertainty.
Maaya nodded solemnly. "But love is stubborn, isn’t it? The heart wants what it wants, even when it knows the price."
The Twilight Approaches
As they left the psychic’s apartment, the weight of Maaya’s words hung heavy between them. A choice loomed on the horizon—one that could either save them or destroy them.
Arjun turned to Riya, his heart aching at the thought of leaving her. "If it comes down to it... I’ll go," he whispered. "I won’t let the curse take you."
Riya shook her head, tears brimming in her eyes. "No. If anyone leaves, it should be me."
Arjun cupped her face in his hands, his voice filled with determination. "We’ll find another way. We have to. I won’t lose you."
The sun had begun to set, and the sky glowed with the same shades of twilight that haunted their dreams. The moment of choice was drawing closer, and neither of them knew if they had the strength to make it.
Unseen by them, shadows flickered at the edge of their vision, waiting patiently for twilight to arrive.
