Where’s my black notebook?

May 8 1970

Rosa couldn’t believe what just happened, it happened so fast she wasn’t thinking and immediately regretted what she just did. Rosa was standing over her client Karen Broderick with Karen’s lamp. Rosa couldn’t believe what she had done, she slammed the lamp into Karen’s head and knocking the old woman down from her wheelchair, Rosa realized Karen was unresponsive. Rosa didn’t mean to do that; she panicked because Karen starts accusing her of stealing money out of her safe. Rosa was just a broke nursing assistant trying to get by in life, she thought her life would get easier if she went to community college. However, life throws curve balls and after working in the nursing field for nine months she already hates her job. She also can’t stand her client Karen Broderick Rosa was already tired of how ungrateful and disrespectful Karen was to her constantly.

The last few months Rosa starts to become resentful towards people around her. She was tired of only getting by paycheck to paycheck daily. Also, having to go into work while Karen can’t at least be grateful someone is there. Karen was just a bitter old woman who was all alone in her mansion, her children barely visit her only every few months Karen barely has anyone who cares for her in her life. Life is really unfair or women like Karen wouldn’t have the lives they have. Rosa had noticed Karen had a safe in the back of her bedroom closet, sometimes Karen would open it to check her money and also to look at her beautiful jewelry. Karen would yell at Rosa if she caught Rosa staring at her when she was staring at her necklace.

“You better not ever come near my safe you hussy” Karen said as she stared at Rosa. “Why would you think I do that?” Karen became silent and just rolled her wheelchair to her nightstand. Rosa noticed she was putting something in the nightstand but couldn’t exactly tell what it was. “Whatever you old bitch” Rosa said under her breath, weeks went by after that situation. Karen was watching tv in the living room. Rosa went to use the bathroom, as she passed Karen’s bedroom she noticed the nightstand again. She didn’t realize it until she went to the nightstand and opened the drawer to find a little black notebook Without a second thought, Rosa picked up the notebook and opened it. She realized the notebook was an agenda for Karen and Rosa noticed Karen wrote down things to remember like the safe password “1969”. Karen was slowly losing her memory and using the notebook to help her remember daily life, Rosa usually minded her own business but she was just curious if the safe password would work.

Rosa casually walked over to the bedroom closet, opened it and went near the safe. She plugged in the password and opened the safe. Inside the safe she noticed stacks of money, a jewelry box and a gun. “Interesting why does she have a gun?” Rosa was about to touch the gun until she heard “ What are you doing you evil little bitch? Trying to rob an old lady I’m calling the police” screamed Karen. Karen entered the room and went towards the phone near the bed. Rosa, shocked and afraid, says “let me explain I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to steal from you I was just curious about the safe please don’t call the police I leave and never come back”. Rosa starts going towards Karen “ I don’t buy that for a second you just a poor evil bitch who wants to steal from an old woman you have no shame and I am going to call the police to report you” Karen reaches for the phone and is about to dial 911.

Rosa panic ran at Karen grabbing onto the phone “do not call the police you will regret it”. A struggle occurred, Rosa trying to rip the phone out of Karen’s hand and Karen trying to rip the phone back. She has a tight grip for an 80 year old woman, Rosa noticing the lamp quickly grabbing the lamp with her left hand and smacking Karen in the head with the lamp. Karen falls over from her wheelchair and falls to the floor. Rosa not realizing a pool of blood was forming around Karen's head “oh my god I killed her, I, I, didn’t mean to do that what I was thinking!” Tears dripping down Rosa’s face “I’m going to jail oh my god my life is ruined….. Unless I disappeared and the body disappeared too”.

Rosa, jogged over to Karen’s closet and grabbed one of Karen’s shirts then ran back to Karen’s body. She took the shirt and wrapped and tied the shirt over Karen’s head so blood wouldn’t drip anymore. Then Rosa quickly grabs bleach, a mop and bucket to clean the blood off the floor. After, Rosa dragged Karen’s body to her bedroom rug and rolled her body into the rug. She ran off to the garage and cut up some rope to tie Karen’s body. Rosa drags the body to the garage and places the body into the trunk of her car. Great, I'm making this worse, but I refuse to go to jail, my life will be over. I made a mistake. I didn’t mean to kill her. Now it might take a while for Karen to get reported missing if I quickly get rid of the body and disappear. I can get away with this, also I should make it look like she left on her own free will that way the police wouldn’t really start investigating. Rosa quickly gathers some of Karen’s belongings and clears out the safe. She poured the mop water down the toilet, turned off all the lights in the house and got in her car and left.

Hours later, Rosa was driving down Yellowhead highway 16 and drove deep into the forest on the side of the highway. Stopping the car, she leaves the car to open her car trunk and drag Karen’s body out. Rosa drags the body a few feet away from the car and once placing the body firmly on the ground she starts to feel exhausted. Slowly going back to her car, she quickly leaves the area as fast as she can. Once at home, Rosa quickly fell asleep the next day Rosa counted out the safe money on her bed, $20,000 dollars laid out on the bed. Perfect I can literally start a new life and skip town. Rosa took all the money and placed it inside her purse, Rosa collected some of her belongings and made sure no picture of her was left in her apartment. Driving away from her old life, she can’t believe what happened in the last 24 hours and swore to herself to disappear completely and make sure no one finds out what happened that night.
