Ulner Still Abuses Wife, Forces Kids to Abuse Her: 36-Year Domestic Violence Sentence

Still forced the kids to abuse their mom

By Criminal MattersPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

Ulner Lee Still was handed a sentence longer than some murderers in 2003 when a court found him guilty of several charges related to domestic violence and sentenced him to 36-years in prison. Still mentally and emotionally abused Susan for the entire 14 years they spent together. Ulner turned physical in the final two years of the relationship.

Dissatisfied with abusing Susan himself, Ulner brainwashed the couple’s three sons into believing their mother was a bad person. They participated in the abuse alongside their dad in many of Ulner’s attacks against Susan.

On one occasion, Susan says, Ulnar called a ‘family meeting,’ and made all the kids call her a “white ho sl*t.” He told them when to start and stop saying it to their mother.

Vicious Attack Recorded by Son

In 2003, Susan asked Ulner if he’d like a sandwich for lunch. The man became irate and attacked her in a 51-minute incident captured on videotape by her 13-year-old son at Ulner’s demand.

Her son didn’t mind recording the abuse. He is heard throughout the video encouraging his dad’s behavior and verbally attacking his mother.

For the next 40-minutes, Ulner screams, shouts, and berates Susan, calling her heifer and stupid multiple times. Ulner attacks Susan in the final 11-minutes of the video. The video shows the man punching, kicking, and tossing Susan around the room as the three boys watched on.

Ulner demands his wife’s “obedience” to him throughout the video recording.

“You play those stupid games with me, I’ll know your teeth out of your face...I’m going to knock your head across that wall,” Ulner says. “You’ve been taught what to say to me, heifer. You follow what I say to the T,” he finishes.

Ulner then instructs his son to turn off the videotape and get ice from the kitchen for her bruises.

Ulner Audio Recorded Abuse

Ulner audio-recorded his frequent attacks against Susan so he could listen to them later. This was the first videotaped incident. He enjoyed listening to himself degrade and humiliate his wife, as somehow, he felt like a bigger, bader man. Anything could set off Ulner, leading him into a vicious attack that left Susan black, blue, and bruised head to toe.

Co-Workers Call Police

The day following the videotaped attack, coworkers called police when Susan arrived at her job covered in bruises. The police took pictures and created a safety plan with Susan. Susan then fled with her sons. Ulner repeatedly called Susan, screaming threats at her, including, “If you don't bring my son home, I’m going to kill you, heifer.”

Police arrested Ulner. According to Prosecutor Lisa Block Rodwin, Ulnar displayed more arrogance than anyone she’s ever tried in court.

“He was making eye contact with the female jurors and trying to look like he was king of the world and ould control them the way he controlled everybody else,” Rodwin says.

Ulner Found Guilty on 14 Counts

Ulner was found guilty of 12 counts of assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He is eligible for parole in 2022.

Susan now works as an advocate for domestic violence victims.
