TX Executes Man For 2008 M*lestation, Strangulation, Stomping Death of His 3-Month-Old Son
Mullis killed his son after asking an 8-year-old to pull down her pants

Travis “TJ” Mullis was executed by lethal injection in the State of Texas on September 24, 2024. He had been sentenced to death after admitting to the brutal molestation, strangulation, and stomping death of his three-month-old infant son, Alijah, in January 2008. He used his last words to apologize to his family, friends, and Alijah’s mother. Mullis was pronounced dead at 7:01 p.m. EST.

Travis Acts Inappropriately
On January 28, 2008, Travis took his roommate's daughter to a local park. While there, he asked her to pull down her pants. The request frightened the girl, and he took her home.
“I asked her to pull her pants down; she said no,” Mullis later confessed to police.
Back at the house, Mullis confessed his misdeed to his girlfriend and mother of his son, Caren Kohberger. The couple argued about what he had done. Both knew the little girl would tell her mom and feared their roommate would kick them out of the house.
Caren also worried Travis would suffer a mental relapse. He lived with mental illness but seemed to be on a good track since the birth of Alijah.
Travis was unemployed and seemed uninterested in obtaining work, leaving them dependent on the roommate and others. If she kicked them out of the house, they would be homeless with three-month-old Alijah.

The Crime
The next morning, Travis was still visibly upset about the prior day and told Caren he needed to get away to clear his head. He loaded Alijah into his car seat and headed toward Galveston.
Travis pulled his vehicle over in a secluded area near Galveston’s Seawall. He proceeded to sexually molest his infant son, leading him to cry uncontrollably. Still enraged, Mullis strangled Alijah, then grabbed him from the car seat, threw him on the ground, and repeatedly stopped on his head. Alijah died from his injuries.

He threw Alijah and his car seat onto the other side of the seawall and fled to Pennsylvania. Four days later, he turned himself into the police in Pennsylvania, confessing what he had done to his precious son. He was extradited to Texas and charged with Alijah’s murder, sexual abuse, and kidnapping.
He was sentenced to death in March 2011. He paid for his crimes 13 years later.

Final Words
"I want to thank the field ministers, the Warden, and the correctional staff for all the changes being made across the system," Mullis said. "Even the men on Death Row, to show it is possible to be rehabilitated, and not deemed a threat and not the men we were when we came into the system. We have changed. We are not the same."
"I do regret the decision to take the life of my son. I apologize to the mother of my son, the victim's family," he said. "I have no ill will towards the court, the judicial system, the prosecution, or the execution protocol. The morality of execution is between you and God ... It was my decision that put me here. I'm ready Warden.”

Rest in Peace, Alijah. You did not deserve what happened to you. Such a handsome baby gone too soon.

That is painful to read. While I don't understand the system in other areas very well, I do believe that, in this case, my feelings are with the baby and the baby's mum. I believe that when it comes to children and babies, they must be a priority and justice must be served in their names.
