The Perfect Heist

The crime story

By FRANKLIN INFANT RAJPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

The sun was setting over the city, casting long shadows across the empty streets. The sound of a car engine echoed through the alleyway, as a sleek black sedan pulled up outside a nondescript building. Two men stepped out, one tall and lean, the other short and stocky. They looked around nervously, scanning the area for any signs of trouble.

"Are you sure this is the right place?" asked the shorter man.

"Positive," replied the tall man. "This is where the goods are being kept. We just need to get in and out before anyone knows what's happened."

They approached the door and the tall man produced a set of lock picks. With practiced ease, he quickly unlocked the door and they slipped inside. The room was dimly lit, but they could see rows of shelves and cabinets lining the walls, each one filled with expensive-looking items.

The shorter man whistled softly. "This is quite a haul. How are we going to carry it all out?"

"We don't need to take everything," replied the tall man. "Just the most valuable items. We'll make it look like a simple burglary, and nobody will suspect a thing."

They began to work their way through the room, selecting the most valuable items and stowing them in duffel bags. They were so focused on their task that they didn't hear the soft footsteps approaching.

Suddenly, a voice spoke out from the darkness. "Hold it right there."

The two men spun around, their hearts pounding in their chests. In front of them stood a police officer, his gun trained on them.

"Put your hands up and step away from the bags," he said.

The tall man tried to play it cool. "We were just, uh, checking out the place. We're looking to buy some of these items."

The officer wasn't buying it. "I don't think so. You two fit the description of a pair of burglars who've been hitting these kinds of places all over the city. You're both under arrest."

The two men were handcuffed and led out of the building, their plans of a perfect heist ruined.

As they sat in the back of the police car, the tall man couldn't help but curse their bad luck. They had done everything right, or so they thought. They had carefully scouted out the location, studied the security system, and planned the perfect getaway. But in the end, it had all come crashing down around them.

Back at the station, they were interrogated separately. The tall man stuck to his story, insisting that they were innocent and had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. The shorter man cracked under the pressure, confessing to everything and implicating his partner in crime.

In the end, both men were charged with burglary and sentenced to several years in prison. As they sat in their cells, they couldn't help but wonder where they had gone wrong. They had planned everything so carefully, but they had overlooked one crucial detail: the possibility of getting caught.

The perfect heist, it turned out, was a myth. No matter how well you planned, no matter how carefully you executed your plan, there was always the chance that something could go wrong. And in the end, it was always the smallest details that tripped you up.

As the years passed, the two men grew bitter and resentful. They had lost everything, and for what? A few stolen trinkets that were never worth the price they had paid.

In the end, they realized that the true cost of a perfect heist was much higher than they had ever imagined. It wasn't just the risk of getting caught, or the years they spent behind bars. It was the loss of their freedom
