Shit, It's Not Raining Men
For Rock's EDGY Challenge! Modern desire, empty apps, and the quiet comedy of being alone.

One more day
The tooth of time bites me
but Damn I bite back
.
What do I need time for
when the world is fighting
wait until I strike back
.
A friend or an Asshole
fuck it – that I know best
skin hunger gives me energy
.
Shit - It’s raining men
The Weather Girls got it wrong
the sky is clear here!
.
I miss and I long
Jesus Christ – it can’t be that hard
he must be somewhere
.
Certainly not on mainstream apps
dating in a new age
Banging without meaning
.
I look over the rim of my coffee cup
travel to the big city
let my eyes flash
.
A hot night on a stranger’s sheets
NSA and then home again
my faithful friend waits
.
The drumbeat of everyday life
app notifications without promises
my own lovable company
.
Holy Crap all of it
self-satisfaction works
the steam from my coffee is cold now.

Author’s Note
This poem grew out of my own encounters with modern dating culture — the strange mix of desire, irony, and quiet loneliness that often hides behind glowing screens.
The swearing in the poem is intentional. Words like “damn”, “shit”, and “fuck” are not meant as provocation, but as small explosions of honesty in a world that often pretends intimacy is simple.
Between coffee cups, app notifications, and brief encounters, the poem tries to capture a familiar modern feeling: the search for warmth in a time where connection is easy to start, but harder to sustain.
