The Murder of Anna Ramirez

Anna's twin sister Amanda stabbed her to death

By Criminal MattersPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

“Amanda, you stabbed me!”

Anna and Amanda Ramirez were identical twin sisters who lived in Camden, New Jersey. The 27-year-old pair were very close and shared that bond known only amongst twin siblings. Wherever you saw Amanda, you could guarantee Anna was somewhere close by.

An Argument Changes it All

That all came to a tragic end on June 22, 2019, when Amanda stabbed her twin sister to death after an alcohol-fueled argument outside her Camden, New Jersey home. Amanda and Anna, along with another friend, hung out at Amanda’s home that night. During the early morning hours, the sisters began to argue. The argument led the women outside at some point. Amanda walked back into the house some time during the argument. She told the third person at the home, “Watch what I am going to do” as she walked inside the home. Amanda then received a knife from the kitchen, walked back outside, approached her sister, and stabbed her once in the right side of the chest.

Amanda “Doesn’t Remember”

Amanda was so heavily intoxicated, she doesn’t remember what the two argued about. She also says that she does not remember stabbing Anna. She does remember that they had an argument, however. She waited with her dying sister until the police arrived. Anna was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Her last words before she died were “Amanda, you stabbed me.”

Amanda was the mother of three young children.

The third person who was at the home with the twins did not witness the stabbing. That person did grab the knife that he saw lying on the ground as Anna laid there bleeding to death.

Argument Was Not Over a Boy

Authorities initially speculated that the sisters were arguing over a man, but their sister, 19-year-old Monika Medina, dispels that statement, saying that Amanda and Anna were “inseparable” and “would never fight over a man.” Both of the women were involved in their own romantic relationships.

"We don't believe this was a jealous act nor done purposely. We believe she didn't do such a thing," said Medina. She continued, "Detectives thought this is the next big thing, 'Sister kills twin over man.'"

Amanda provided the police with two different versions of events before finally admitting to stabbing her sister. Initially, Amanda denied stabbing her sister. She then admitted to stabbing her sister, but claimed that she did so in self-defense. Amanda finally admitted to stabbing her sister as she broke down in tears.

Amanda Accepts Plea Deal

Amanda pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to six years in prison. She admitted to stabbing her sister, though she insisted she never meant to kill her. She also told the judge she would take back the incident if she could.

“Having to live with the fact that she’s no longer alive is devastating,” she said. “I know there’s nothing I can say to justify what I did. I just want to make it clear that I never had intentions of taking my twin sister’s life. If I could take back what I did I would in a heartbeat,” she said, as tears streamed down her face, according to NJ.com.

“Having to live with the fact that she’s no longer alive is devastating,” she continued, her voice cracking. “I just want to apologize to my family for putting them through this. I hope that they all can forgive me.”
