Hello, hello

Today I brought another real, and recent case that is happening in Portugal. Like always I don't intented to talk about this case in a entertainmment point of view. All the informations are retrieved from oficial news outlet and the only names of the family that I will talk about are the adults that talked directly to the news outlets, the victim, and the suspect. So, let's start.

Picture this,

You are in your living room with your younger brother when your mom appers next to you. It's a bit late but she informs you that she was just going to the nearest coffe shop and will be right back. She grabs keys, her purse and the ultrasound images of your new younger sibiling and leaves. Some hours later she calls you to inform you that she is almost home, one hour later she calls again. You don't pick up. That phone call was the last time you heard your mom.

2023, October

This is the date when Mónica Silva was last seen. The 33 year old woman has became one of the most talked about cases in Portugal. Mónica or, the pregnant woman of Murtuosa went missing and I'm here to tell you what we know about it.

First, the night where she went missing her then boyfriend, Fernando (and main suspect) calls her. At the this time she was 7 months pregnant and everyone assumed that the baby was Fernando's, even though, and this says her family, he never wanted to be seen with her, their dates happened at late night and in parking lots or near forests. He assumed that the baby was his but Mónica told her family that she didn't need him to raise that baby. And Fernando even asked her to keep it secret. And that was the beggining of the police's theory.

What happened?

The police says that Fernando grew worried about the possibility of Mónica and the baby in the future asking him for money, or properties that he and his family have. If he agreed that the baby was his that was his "heir". So, he decided that he needed to get rid of Mónica and the baby.

That same night Fernando's car was seen in 3 different places that don't look like make sense, makig the police believe it was a way to have an alibi. At 1h:48 Mónica texts a man that she owns money to leave her a alone and not to hurt her. The police also believes that was Fernando pretending to be Mónica. The cellphone towers pinged Mónica's cellphone near Fernando's appartment, then on the next day in a city where Fernando's family have properties.

Another reason that leads the police to believe that it was Fernando that killed Mónica was his recent google searchs "how to delete messages correctly" and "how to delete messages in Messenger", plus his recent purchase a new cellphone with no gps or internet connection and a SIM card. He used that new phone to call Mónica that night and only that night.

The witness

But then a man appeared, all these Google searchs and purchases are strange but they aren't enough evidence. This witness is a worker of Fernando's dad. He tells the police that he was called to go to Fernando' appartment to clean, with chemicals know to erase any kind of evidence. Even the parking lot was cleaned. The man also claims to have seen women clothes in the bed that later were confirmed as the same clothes that Mónica's sons saw her leave the house with.

No body, no crime

Her body still hasn't been found. Fernando's went to trial and wasn't considered guilty for lack of evidence. To this day Mónica's body hasn't been found and her family still doesn't know what happened to her.
