The Cunning Witch

Witch

By Sudais ZakwanPublished about 5 hours ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, in a small village, a farmer lived with his wife. One day, his wife said, “I feel like eating some fresh salad leaves today.” Unfortunately, the village had none. But not far from the village, there was a field that belonged to a witch. In her field, fresh salad leaves grew abundantly, but the witch did not like strangers. Anyone who dared enter her field would be turned into a monkey by her magic.

Despite knowing the danger, the farmer could not refuse his wife. He decided to fetch the salad leaves. Climbing over the wall into the witch’s field, he carefully picked some leaves. At that moment, the witch noticed him and called out, “What are you doing here?”

The farmer replied, “I’ve come to take some salad leaves for my wife.”

The witch said, “If you want to take these leaves, you must fulfill one condition.”

“What condition?” asked the farmer.

“You are going to have a child soon,” the witch said. “You must give your firstborn to me.”

Though shocked, the farmer agreed, fearing her magical powers. Later, the farmer’s wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. The couple was overjoyed and soon forgot about the promise they had made to the witch.

Years passed, and the little girl grew into a smart, clever child. One day, as she played near the house, a knock came at the door. She opened it and saw a hideous old woman standing there—none other than the witch. Terrified, the girl slammed the door shut.

When the farmer and his wife returned home and saw their daughter in fright, they were alarmed. The girl explained everything. The parents realized with dismay that the witch had come to claim the child they had promised before her birth. The farmer and his wife became deeply worried. They consulted each other and decided they would not hand over their daughter. Instead, they would move far away so the witch could not find them.

Time passed, and their daughter continued to grow—wise and intelligent. One day, the witch arrived at their door again. Remembering her mother’s advice, the girl acted quickly. She invited the witch inside, claiming it was a gesture of hospitality. She then prepared a soup for the witch, secretly mixing it with magical herbs that would put the witch into a deep sleep.

The witch, unaware of the girl’s plan, tasted the soup and said, “This soup is very delicious.”

The girl innocently replied, “My father and I made it for you.”

The witch, pleased, said, “When this girl comes to my house, she will make me soup like this every day.”

The girl spoke to the witch gently, using sweet words to calm her. Soon, the witch grew drowsy and fell unconscious. Acting quickly, the farmer lifted the witch and threw her into a dark well, sealing it tightly. The witch’s magic could trouble no one again.

The villagers, who had long suffered from the witch’s evil powers, were finally free. They praised the clever girl and the brave farmer and his wife. From that day on, the village lived in peace and happiness, free from fear of the witch’s curses. The girl grew up admired for her intelligence, and the farmer and his wife were celebrated for protecting their child and the village

Thus, the cunning witch was defeated by cleverness, courage, and quick thinking, showing that evil, no matter how powerful, can be overcome with intelligence and bravery. showing that evil, no matter how powerful, can be overcome with intelligence and bravery.
