One Of The Unsolved Murders From My Area Of The World.
Over the years, if you lived in my area, there is one cold case or another that will occasionally become the subject of bar chatter or water cooler banter. Having met and worked with the person that was the only arrest in the case, ever, this one is definitely a case I'll always remember. The unsolved murder of Brenda Marsh and Earl Marsh still haunts the area.

The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann True crime doesn’t always have a resolve, and hardly ever a happy ending. Though solved mysteries with a tight bow tying everything together can help me sleep at night, sometimes it’s more fun to explore every avenue of an unsolved crime. My favorite one happens to be the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Southwestern Iowa's Most Grizzly Unsolved Murders, The Villisca Axe Murders Of 1912.
In the fall of 2010, in my darkest of places, I traveled to visit a young female friend that attended college in North-Western Missouri. Truthfully, at that time in my life, the long drives on the weekends were a very cathartic experience. During one of those eight-hour drives that I made, I took a side trip. I'd noticed signs and found the distraction online as I plotted different routes. In a small town in South Western Iowa, a town I had never heard of before, there is an allegedly haunted home that was once the scene of a horrifically shocking multiple murder. Before I knew it, I was now entering Villisca, Iowa. I was, down the rabbit hole, as they say. This place is just a bizarre little piece of midwest history but I couldn't help but visit it, to get the feeling of the place, and the sense of dread that comes with knowing about such a dreaded crime. Perhaps, as a professional curiosity, having been in law enforcement, I'm intrigued by such events. Or, perhaps I am like many, just drawn to mysteries and the bizzare.

America's Unknown Child
All that remains of 'America's Unknown Child' is a large plot in the Ivy Hill Cemetery in Cedarbrook, Philadelphia, surrounded by stuffed animals and other small gifts. Ivy Hill Cemetery employees meticulously care for the grave as if it was their own. Unfortunately, no name identifies who is buried below.

The Most Dangerous Game
For years, I have always been fascinated with murder mysteries and what makes serial killers tick. Become who they are. When I was 11, my father had a close friend named Bob. He worked for the Chicago Tribune for many years. He used to tell me a story, of a psychopath killer that was notorious during his time in Northern California. During the 60's and 70's, obviously there was no social media and cellphones. The only source of information was the newspaper. This man, The Zodiac killer. Was a master of manipulation. Using the San Francisco Chronicle, as his personal pawn. All these mind games in his disposal. Whether it was letters, riddles, puzzles, or a piece of clothing from his victims. Even saying he was threatening the newspaper to publish articles about him, or a school bus full of children would see his wrath. Zodiac was insane, and not right in the head. He wanted the people to guess his next move. Grasping the spotlight, any chance he got. Seeing his picture on the 5 o'clock news. Waiting for fear and panic, to reach the streets of California. That's the kind of man, The Zodiac killer was.

The Case of Cindy James
The story of Cindy James. Cindy had made complaints of over 100 domestic violence attacks. Her father thought she was making a lot of this up. She claimed on multiple occasions someone was near her harassing her. Once she was found and taken to hospital and she only remembered this person was wearing sneakers. One day Cindy was found gagged, and dead. This all took place in 1989. This all took place it British Columbia, a suburb of Richmond. Her body was found at an abandoned house. Police did not investigate homicide they focused on suicide. After her exam they said she had high dose of morphine in her system. But her family questioned even if she had that level in her system than how could she gag and kill herself. She was living in fear because prior to that she had moved, changed her name and did a lot to move away. The death certificate showed cause of death as "unknown event". This case remains unsolved.

The Disappearance of Samantha Sayers
On the first day of August 2018, experienced hiker Samantha Claire Sayers, then just shy of her 28th birthday, ate a sandwich at the summit of the intimidating Vesper Peak, which is part of the North Cascades National Park in Washington State. Witnesses who also made the more than 4,000 foot climb would later confirm they saw Samanta also chatting with other climbers, and looking at her phone.

DB Cooper
With a sense of flair and panache, some crimes go down in history because of the way they were done, solved or not. They'll forever be remembered for the style of the crime, the brazenness to pull such a stunt, and they will be remembered for the particular person that would do such a thing. DB Cooper was one of those men, and in a small way, people have all struggled with the term criminal as writers, even investigators, respect his daring.

Born To Be A Star
No matter where we come from, we are all born to do something. Whether it is to become a teacher, a doctor, a painter, a writer, or an actor, everyone has a purpose or goal that determines their life. Maybe some of us had a silver spoon and an unlimited bank account, never having to work, or perhaps we are poor, working three jobs while going to school, or a full-time student dedicated to a life of academia. Well, Elizabeth Short was none of these things, but inevitably, she was born to be a star!
