Academy Murders: The Red Planet. Content Warning.
Documentaries streamed on Kim’s TV in her room. Investigations into how possible ise formations in the ravines and valleys of the Martian surface intrigued her. Maybe I should have been a scientist, she thought. But she banished the idea. She was a cop. She was a Marine. Everything she knew came from her integrations as someone who upheld law.

Communal Effort
The thing about living in a commune is that it seems to attract a lot of misanthropes. Janine had moved in after her husband had an affair with the neighbours. On both sides. Lonnie had read about what the FBI were up to on the web and didn’t like the way his neighbours looked at him at all. Andreas had left Greece because he couldn’t stand the people; his neighbours were prying busybodies who always asked him when he was getting a job or a girlfriend. Tina had taught in a comprehensive school for 45 years and could neither stand being around folk or away from them, and Tom and Marcus felt folk spurned them due to their free love lifestyle, and craved a more open-minded loving kinship with folk who weren’t ignorant wankers like most people.

Finley High Confessions
Part One Connor stares down at the red plastic cup in his hand. He hates parties. The cup only has soda in it, and he only has it because he doesn’t need people looking at him like he’s some sort of freak. As if slurred speech and being imbalanced was the only way to have fun when you’re in high school.

A Detective Story
Painful Memories Dick Kingsley nodded politely to Diana Mah, a sprightly 65-year-old, who hunkered nearby, effortlessly pulling up weeds in the neatly manicured front garden. He felt at ease in her presence, and considered her like an old, weathered gray blanket, providing him with a sense of warmth, despite the occasional uncomfortable feeling.

The Vacation. Top Story - January 2024. Content Warning.
No one liked him. He was one of those people who grated on everyone’s nerves, who thought he was hilarious, whose presence at a party everyone dreaded because he would get too drunk and demand being the centre of attention.
