The tall, wide archway spread the same shadow over his head; rotting beams, ancestral cobwebs and sparrow’s nests sailed over the roof of the car. The Curious Incident of the Girl on the Flight
Charles de Gaulle Airport outside Paris was a buzz with the comings and goings of frazzled, jet-lagged passengers riding the tailwinds of holiday traffic, clumsily shuffling through the betrodden concrete corridors of Terminal One. Maya, part of the throng jockeying for the pole position on the moving walkway, wove through the faces suspended in a limbo of neither here nor there and proceeded onward on automatic pilot. Succumbing to the rhythmic drone of clicking heels and baggage wheels, she slid off the conveyer belt in search of a toilet, following the prompts of those iconic figures, one of whom would lead her to the correct gender assignation in the public restrooms.

Heart's pumping, arms and legs are shaking, I slam my front door open then lean up against it as I close it, hands grabbing the hair on the top of my head, eyes and mouth wide open then I say "What the hell just happened!" I repeat it over and over again while I pace around my house, as I started to calm down I sat on the couch and tried to figure out how to handle this.

Little Black Book
Detective Ally McIntosh was sick of this shit: sick of shitty coffee, hard-back metal chairs, stale doughnuts, and preachy people. She was tired of trying to be sober. Her last incident, she just had a couple of drinks and drove her unmarked police car into an unsuspecting dog and killed it. She did not think it was really a problem, though; she could control herself if she wanted, she just didn’t. Internal Affairs investigated, and they suspended her for six months and forced to see the department shrink and go to AA meetings. The people in the meetings were sympathetic, happy, and all and seemed to mean well but had no idea what the real world was like for her.

Jasper ran through the door at breakneck speeds and slammed it behind him, looking through the porthole of glass on the white metal security door at the approaching security teams he locked the mechanism and punched down on the hydraulic button. The two clamps attached to the sides of the door on his side hissed as they pushed together just in time for the black-clad figures to reach the door and make futile attempts to get it open. He was the only one to make it through from the team; it was just him now, that should hold them for a while Jasper thought as he turned around.
