Just Let Me Die Here (A Serialized Novel) 10
It’s our first full day in Canmore, and it’s raining. We hadn’t planned to ski today. Thought we would give ourselves a day to see the sights. But there are no sights to see in the torrential downpour outside our window. From the bed, I can see that all the mountains are now trapped behind walls of cloud and will surely be stuck there for a while. I imagine all the snow being washed away by the rivers of rain and I just hope it’s colder up near the peaks. Snow. Just let it snow. The clouds move quickly, as if swirling around a single point in the distance and I hear a rumbling. It’s not long before a flash of lightening illuminates the entire view.

When Nothing More Could Be Done to Dodge a Bullet
It was quick after Clara Rose Fox, criminal defense lawyer, entered stage 1 of NON-REM sleep during an attempted evening nap on September 3rd 2016 that she was woken up by a call from a police officer who informed her John Smith had been arrested following a fairly big drug trafficking investigation and wanted to speak with her. After she accepted his call, the latter explained: "We’ve spoken a few times a while back concerning a highway safety statement of offence. I’m now caught in something a little bigger. Are you free to meet me at the courthouse tomorrow to discuss the possibility of representing me?”. She told him she would arrange to be there and he gratefully thanked her.

CHAPTER EIGHT ('ish)
Chap 8 - Pt 1 (BUT THEN TWO HOURS THERE BEFORE...) The ride out to the Lightninged Tree—as Richard preferred to call it—took a little more than fifteen minutes. The road was ragged by all appearances, rough in places where the potholes were deep; but most of the potholes were off on the sides of the road, enabling Sonia to make better time than Nigel would’ve thought possible in an automobile. He could see her smile when she caught him looking at the speedometer.

Repudiate
It wouldn’t be enough to repudiate the rumours, Danielle thought. She’d have to expunge the idea from the get-go, otherwise it would follow her around forever, with someone questioning the validity of the statement. People seemed to always believe the worst and a hint of was as damaging as the reality. Unless you were a movie star, then there was pretty much no such thing as ‘bad publicity’.

Just Let Me Die Here (A Serialized Novel) 9
Tucker and Millie are both still asleep and I try not to wake them putting on my sweatpants, boots, and jacket to step outside. I stand on our balcony taking it all in. The vertical rock towers in front of me are set aglow with the pink of the rising sun. The light scent of smoke from a nearby chimney wafts through the crisp air. This is where I’m meant to be. I am completely at home. But before I can enjoy the moment any further, I am called inside by my child’s waking cries.

Path Divided
The weather had been beautifully warm for several days, in fact unseasonably warm, which, while welcome, hinted at a long hot summer to come. After basking in undulating warmth, the kind that meant a sweater wasn’t required and a welcome reprieve after a long winter that hadn’t been harsh with minimal snow and even less rain, it was still a relief! And wouldn’t you know it, just when you were getting used to it, you woke up to misty skies and cool temperatures that had you reaching for the warmest sweater in your wardrobe!
