Richard Ramirez was born on February 29, 1960, in El Paso, Texas. He was one of five children and grew up in a troubled household. One time a baby sitter was taking care of him, he wanted her to put on the radio but she refused because she was watching something at that time, so he reached for the radio on the cabinet but Richard was too small so he climbed the cabinet and it fell on top of him. It left a huge gash on his head and he had to get thirteen stitches
He started to have seizures at a very young age which were believed to be linked to his head injuries, this seizures were caused by temporal lobe damage .
Ramirez was a troubled child and was often in trouble with the law. He dropped out of high school and began using drugs. He moved to California in the 1970s and began a life of crime
Ramirez's killing spree began in June 1984, when he attacked a 79-year-old woman in her home. Over the next year, Ramirez continued to commit a series of brutal crimes, including rape, murder, and burglary. His victims ranged in age from 9 to 83 years old.
