The Maddy case is one that shook the world, and especially Britain, to its core. Even though it seemed inexplainable, many many people have come up with theories to explain this weird mystery.
The McCann story is as follows:
Kate and Gary McCann were on a holiday trip to Portugal, with their three kids, Madeline and their two-year-old twins. Madeline and her siblings were together and sleeping in one of the flats at the resort the family was staying at, while her parents and their friends were close by, at a restaurant. Kate regularly checked up on the kids, until at around 22:00, where she came up but couldn’t locate Madeline.
After her disappearance, the Portuguese police force came to the conclusion that Kate and Gary had found a dead Madeline, and attempted to cover it up. The McCanns were placed on trial, however the court adjourned the case due to lack of evidence, however this did not stop the internet from creating many more theories as to what could of happened on that mysterious day.
Over the past decade, people’s hyperactive imaginations have been proven through the crazy conclusions they’ve made about the case.
From kidnappings to murder, and alien abductions to simple getting lost stories, the world has not lacked in amassing theories. But the longer this case has gone on, the less taken seriously these ideas became.
One popular theory, most turned to is that the abduction of Madeline McCann was the result of an burglary gone wrong. The theory goes, as a person attempted to burgle the McCann holiday apartment, Madeline interrupted them, or something along my these lines, and the burgled resulted in kidnapping her. This theory however, has many holes in my opinion. Why didn’t the burglar just leave? Why did he decided to kidnap some random girl, he could’ve done that anywhere.
A street singer, busker if you will, created a song while sitting atop the tower bridge, going abit like “i know where madeline mccann is, she’s in my fridge, in several bits.”
The fact that for entertainment, a man felt enabled to make a song depicting a child’s brutal death, and simply referring to her as “bits” just further emphasises how the story of Madeline has become more of a folk tale than a real, unsolved mystery, involving children and a broken family.
The song further goes “she’s in my freezer, next to the frozen pizza!”, which makes me wonder- does this count as proof of crime? And if this man were taken to court.. would he be charged? Because after all, he just insinuated that he killed her and placed her in his fridge and freezer…
One of my favourite conspiracy theories thus far must be that Madeleines parents staged the kidnapping and killed her themselves. Why would parents do such a thing you ask? Well. the creativity of the internet is broad and unparalleled, and one of their most favourite somehow thought to be acceptable theory is that the McCann did it for the attention. For some twisted form of fame and fortune, and personally, I don’t think anything is impossible.
But yes. That is my favourite unsolved mystery, and with the millions of pounds still being generated into the investigation more than a decade later, I think it’s one of the most famous and expensive ones seen in Great Britain too.
You see, the Madeline McCann case has amassed over £12 million in the investigation, millions more than what many other, more accessible with better likelihood’s and chances to be solved, abduction cases. It is said that after 48 hours, a kidnapped persons probability of being found is reduced significantly, so why after 15 years, is this investigation still on going?
