Tragedy struck Port Harcourt when 300-level student of Biochemistry at the University of Port Harcourt, Justina Nkang, was found dead in the home of her boyfriend, 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering in the same University of Port Harcourt, Okoligwe Damian.

Prior to the discovery of her body, Justina Nkang had been declared missing for four days. Then, according to the state Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, an unidentified neighbor of the suspect called the attention of the police when he perceived a foul smell oozing from the suspect’s apartment. Upon arrival at the scene, Damian's door was forced open and it was inside his room that the dismembered remains of Justina Nkang were found inside a Ghana-Must-Go bag.

Speaking to journalists about what happened, Damian Okoligwe, the suspect said:

DAMIAN OKOLIGWE: I woke up and then the girl was lying lifelessly in my house. It was just the two of us in the house. I don't know what killed her. I did not report to anybody, that was the mistake I made, that I did not report to anybody. I just left. I did not pack the body. I did not do anything. I just carried the body like that and put on the wheelbarrow, but I now left, and then came back. I was trying to dispose [of the body] because I thought anybody that sees this thing will now blame it on me. She was already dead, I don't know what killed her. We had a relationship, we just used to makeup and breakup. She stayed the night and in the morning is when I found her dead. She spent the night in the room, I spent the night in the parlor, and then I found her dead in the morning in the room. I was supposed to report but I did not report because I was very scared. I did not know what to do. I was thinking if I report this thing now, everybody will blame it on me, and look at it now, everybody is blaming it on me. I don't know what to do.
