JonBenet Ramsey

The Cold Case

By Spades TidwellPublished 4 years ago 6 min read

A beauty pageant princess the age of six was gruesomely murdered in her own house on Christmas morning at 5:58 AM. A ransom note found by the mother on the steps of their own staircase demanded $118,000 or their daughter would not be returned alive. The note lead to Patsy Ramsey, JonBenet Ramsey’s mother, to call the police to report her daughter missing at 5:52 AM. Nothing in the note gave a hint that the six-year-old star would be found in the basement of the house. The note stated one thing that could be crucial to cops. In the note the possible killers state, “Mr. Ramsey, Listen carefully! We are a group of individuals that represent a small foreign faction. We respect your business, but not the country it serves.” This could mean that this murder was done by multiple people. Being that the note has an even amount of money that they want so that they can share it evenly, they also state that they are a “group of individuals”. This note states this, “The two gentlemen that are watching over your daughter do not particularly like you, so I advise you not to provoke them. Speaking to anyone about your situation, such as the police or FBI, will result in your daughter being beheaded.” This would prove once more that this could be a multiple killer situation. The note has a detail that could be pointing in the direction of law enforcement itself as well. The note adds, “You can try to deceive us, but be warned that we are familiar with law enforcement countermeasures and tactics. You stand a 99% chance of killing your daughter if you try to outsmart us. Follow our instructions and you stand a 100% chance of getting her back.” Maybe the group of individuals would know when to commit the crime when they got the call. This could also explain why it remains a cold case, murders working on the inside of the case. Initials were signed on the bottom of the ransom note “S.B.T.C” these initials still are unidentified. What was suspicious about the ransoms money amount was how close it was to John Ramsey’s amount he got as a bonus from his job as CEO of an access graphics company. What was extremely chilling about the note that the pen and paper were used from inside the home. This then lead to the possibility of an intruder or her own family, yet little evidence was found to support the thought of an intruder such as no forced entry and no footsteps in the snow, with all the signs then pointing to one of the three family members, John Ramsey, Patsy Ramsey, and Burke Ramsey. Today the murder is still unconvinced or isn’t even know, but using the evidence from the case and personal encounters with the Ramsey family, a decade long case might be solved.

John Ramsey:

John Ramsey was the father of Jonbenet Ramsey, a man who is a CEO of an access graphics company. The body of his daughter had signs of sexual abuse from recently and from earlier in her life. Sexual abuse that could have only been from a man, being that her nine-year-old brother, Burke Ramsey, was not yet fully grown therefore could not have done such harassment. Leaving all evidence pointing to John Ramsey. Another thing that was odd about the ransom note was that the amount requested was how much money John Ramsey got as a bonus from his company. This later leaves cops to believe that the note was staged as a distraction. An exclusive interview with the only cop at the scene for most of that morning states, “I remember seeing John in the kitchen looking through his mail and I… I made a note, that he was looking at his mail and I wondered where did your mail come from.” If the house was bordered with police tape, then how would mail have been delivered? And why would the father of a missing child check his mail in the middle of an investigation. She also states that when 10:00 came around, the deadline time for a call from the kidnappers, no one stated that the deadline has ended. This was also something that the investigator took note of. Because of the tension in the household, Linda Aren't instructed John Ramsey and a pastor to look for her, certain she wouldn’t be found because detectives already searched the house, as soon as she said that John Ramsey ran down stairs, into the basement and found her right away. After being instructed not to touch anything, John Ramsey asks if he can cover the body with a blanket. Before Linda could say no, the body was already covered, contaminating any evidence that may have proven that he was the killer.

Patsy Ramsey:

Patsy Ramsey was the mother of Jonbenet Ramsey, a pageant winner herself was also a suspect to the murder of her daughter. She was thought to have accidentally murdered Jonbenet in a fit of rage over a bedwetting accident. In fit she slammed her daughters head against the side of the tub. In a form of haste, she put a rope around her neck thinking Jonbenet was already dead. She formed a strangulation tool out of a homemade garrote and a paintbrush out of patsy’s painting kit that lay next to the scene. She was also thought to write a ransom note then lay it on the stairs, where she would be sure to find it the next morning. She wrote the ransom note to cover up her murder. She was the one who called 911. This may have been done to trace the murder away from her. Another popular theory is that Patsy Ramsey killed Jonbenet out of jealousy. Being that Patsy has only won two pageants in her life and Jonbenet winning over 10 pageants in first place.

Burke Ramsey:

Burke Ramsey was the nine-year-old brother of Jonbenet Ramsey. A fourth-grade student who was doing well in his classes. Some thoughts are that he was jealous that Jonbenet got all the attention from the family and out in public. In an exclusive interview on the Dr. Phil show he smiled through all the questions. Not showing any remorse towards his sister in any form of way. He was also thought to be sexually abusing his sister as well as his father, and was going to tattle on him so he killed her. He was said to be sleeping through all of this but in the 911 call he was heard talking.

Through a lot of the investigation all the evidence pointed towards the family, but could other people be at blame for the murder of a six-year-old child? Three people also had evidence pointing towards them. Gary Oliver, a 32-year-old sex offender, Michael Helgoth, a 26-year-old electrician, and John Mark Karr, a 51-year-old school teacher. But some of the evidence may point to the cops as well.

Gary Oliver:

This 32-year-old offender was found saying “I hurt a little girl. I hurt a little girl.” The night of the murder. And the knots used for the strangulation tool were similar to the ones he used to try and strangle his mother. The crime scene could be related to a sexual assault case. There was also a drop of blood on Jonbenet’s underwear. This is also found in sexual assault victims cases.

Michael Helgoth:

A 26-year-old electrician was suspected because of the history between him and the Ramsey family. He might have killed Jonbenet Ramsey out of revenge. He killed himself two days after the murder before anyone might have been able to convict him of the murder.

John Mark Karr:

This 51-year-old teacher was fired after charged for passion of child pornography. He had a series of diaries written about Jonbenet and the crime scene. He told a close friend that the murder of Jonbenet was like a love game gone wrong, and he told his friend that he told her close your eyes my sweetheart, everything is going to be okay.

The police:

The police were a big part of all this. A murder wasn’t solved for two decades, but who was the ones who were supposed to be solving it? If the police were the ones that did the crime, why would they try their hardest to solve it? In the ransom note it stated that we are familiar with law enforcement procedures. This could point their direction. That may be why no one showed up except one police figure to the scene. And they could have committed the crime when they got the call. They would also be let into the house during the investigation. If they were doing a search of the house and found the body, they could have finished the job.
