African American Serial Killers Part 9
Over‐Represented Yet Under-acknowledged
The Kansas City Strangler, also known as Lorenzo Gilyard, maintained his innocence even after DNA evidence proved otherwise; even after he had been convicted of six murders; he always professed his alleged not guilty status. This could be infuriating. After leaving mostly prostitutes and women and girls on the fringes of society dead in his wake, Gilyard still maintains he’s innocent. How abominable is that?
Often found without their shoes, the woman had been throttled and sexualized. Gulyard had done this on thirteen occasions. Like a grim reaper stalking his prey and then proceeding to devour them, the trash collector killer ended the lives of these women devoid of remorse.
Whenever asked, he countered with his assertions that he had never committed any of the crimes despite mountains of DNA evidence. Whether it had been hair or semen, the argument the defense stood on remained that someone had come behind Gilyard and snuffed the lives of these women. The judge agreed with the prosecution citing that such actions would be highly illogical.
To keep saying he’s an innocent man makes for a specific way that should have landed Gilyard on death row. Instead, he is serving a life sentence without the possibility for parole.
The disrespect to the victims and their families is ever apparent. The irony that he should live while he murdered over a dozen women remains like residue. While he had to become a sadistic, malevolent force whose ruthlessness belied his rather calm demeanor, he also violated some of the rules for serial killers.
There is scant information if he tortured animals but he walked around school as a bully. Such behavior flies in the face of most killers who are attacked for whatever alleged reason. He imposed himself on his classmates and made hell for some of their lives.
This then led to deviancy with him being charged with rape. How is this the behavior of an innocent prince? He had found a way to brutalize these females with the intent of dominating them and being the bully he was during adolescence.
He channeled the spirit of a purely devious child. In essence, he became an overgrown adolescent ogre who flouted all good things in life. Every female he erased should be remembered despite whatever actions they chose in their time in the land of the living.
What makes this whole excursion into the darkness and depths of a truly corrupted soul is the fact he breathes as of this writing.
Gilyard eluded law enforcement for over 27 years before they captured him in 2004. With the DNA which linked him to at least seven other slayings while he remained behind bars that is what destroyed the possibility that he might be innocent.
His delusional behavior ought to be studied by investigators for years to come. It is so crucial that he be made an example of when it comes to the crimes that he exacted against these women. Whether they roamed the streets as hookers or lived an existence as drug abusers, they still had life in activities which shouldn’t even be crimes. If prostitution and narcotics and other scheduled substances finally went on the market and could not be punishable, what would that do to the idea of individuals being strangled to death? Would that mitigate or even eliminate the possibility for these monsters like Gilyard to do their worst?
To fully see the extent of his crimes, it is only right that rational people examine how a pervert and a deviant can be so adamant about his guiltlessness. It ought to be said that he can say whatever he wants but thanks to the power of science, that will always be the deciding factor.

Chilling and deeply unsettling. You present the facts with clarity while honoring the victims' humanity. DNA may not silence him — but it does speak the truth.
