Word of the Day: 膨らむ
fukuramu - to swell, inflate, expand
I am just so feeling odd right now. I woke up too early and already had a coffee and breakfast and it is barely 3:30am. I know it is way too early to start the day, but I took a nap yesterday so I am not tired in the slightest.
I have my English lesson with my student today but I feel pretty good about it since I have a list of 20 English sayings and we only meet for an hour anyway. I also have an idea for next lesson so I feel confident about the week. It is the following lesson I feel is sort of difficult to determine the course of action for. I think I could do a whole editing his mistakes but I feel he's not as receptive to being corrected constantly or harshly so, I don't think that will be as helpful or go over well with him.
Also I know that we can always default to his flight book that he likes to read from. I think it helps him explain the mechanics to someone so he can think in English for a moment. He does need to pass an oral test so, I think I worry about that mostly.
I feel imposter syndrome constantly and wonder if what I am doing is enough but, we do happen to spend that hour really easily so, maybe I don't need to worry.
I am teaching him some English sayings/idioms right now but I know that will not go over so well in the long term. I have now in front of me the daunting task of addressing grammar. My student is a 57 year old man so I am sure this is something he isn't looking forward to, nor wants to admit he needs help in.
I am struggling to find the sweet spot of giving just the right amount of information without overwhelming or underwhelming him with it.
I luckily found this great page from Walden University online that explains English grammar so I can just sample from there. I know that is "cheating" but really, I just need to understand it to explain it to him, the handout doesn't need to be original otherwise every teacher who teaches from a textbook is a crook.
I think I am going to post the list of idioms on here on a separate story so you all can see what I am talking about. I don't think I can post the pages from Walden University unless I rephrase it, but grammar is pretty exact in what it is so, there are limited was of explaining something until you just say, " it is what it is "
I am listening to Starboy right now and vibing with it pretty hard. I feel like working on this stuff today is setting me up for success. I haven't made another lesson yet, but I feel like until I feel I have a good hand out for him, I don't want to set another one unless he sends a request.
I got a free drink at Starbucks two days ina row now, this is a pretty good shop except the coffee sucks. Luckily their matcha lemonade and refreshers are pretty good so I do have some sort of caffeinated beverage I can drink here.
" Something really good is coming toward you. "
Listening to the current tarot card reader makes me feel a bit more hopeful but it is for a Capricorn, which I sometimes identify as since I have like 7 placements, my sun is Aquarius though...
