TWO YOUNG OFFICERS DOWN
I remember a time when New York City was a booming city of tourists and a haven for its residents. One could walk down Madison Avenue and feel safe and enjoy the weekend strolling. People were friendly and they smiled. Unfortunately, the New Year came with its gloominess and worries. We endured two years of distancing and masking, shunning most social activities we once took for granted. There's a huge problem of restlessness in this city: it's gun violence. The last victims were two young police officers who served and honored their emblem. They were entrapped in an ambush in Harlem and went down, but a third officer shut the gunman.

I love simplicity and progress. I thrive in those environments. When people talk about the dangers of workaholism I secretly hope none of that is true because it is only through work that I find channels to organize my life and get some worthwhile meaning out of it.

When this post is all said and done, I will have shared something that most just won’t share because they are too afraid, I’m not afraid to share what I have gone through, but I will say that it isn’t easy to share, and that’s probably another reason a lot of people just don’t share it.

Giving up
Normally I find myself writing something on my website, but tonight feels a little different. I haven't felt good for a few days, and to be honest I was ready to give up on it all, writing, university, my businesses, and being a better person. I just felt as if it was all too much and I was suffocating myself.

Watching a group of people perform a Haka is something that you don't forget. A Haka is a ceremonial Maori challenge. It's listed as a dance, but it feels, look, and sounds like that definition doesn't quite fit the bill. Each Haka is unique to that group of people, and it stands an unquestionable symbol of unity, strength, and the bond shared by the people involved in it.

Sure, I was the kid with the winning smile, the young heart who talked too quickly and too loudly of the love he owned and wished to give away. Religion changed that. When I was twelve, Mrs. Braebrooke told me that Jesus found life difficult because he believed in honesty and faithfulness and that having a generous spirit led him to be abused, scoffed at for His gentleness. So, I and my winning smile thought it was time to find another way.

Just For Me
I struggle to share things. I know I am not alone. I started this poem with my husband in mind. We have been married for 12 years and only in the last year did I share with him any of my writing. In the middle of writing this poem, I realized it wasn’t just him I hadn’t shared any of my writing with. My family, my closest friends. No other past relationships. But thinking back on it, that was how I liked it. Like I said only very recently did I start sharing with my family and one close friend about anything I’ve written. I am not sure what drove me to finally do so. I guess I finally began to feel like some of what I was writing was…good? I haven’t had many triumphs in life. I graduated high school, married young, and am now a stay-at-home mom of two beautiful children. Maybe I felt like I needed some other kind of recognition.

Post-Surgery Here's What I Learned About the Difference Between Men and Women
Pre-op, I would whizz around our house cleaning, collecting washing as I went, dusting, and attending to a myriad of jobs that constantly needed doing in a busy household. Except our household is not that busy; there are just the two of us. But still, there are a ton of household chores that need doing regularly. Cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing, changing beds, watering plants and the list goes on. We all do them without a second thought.
