I “Quiet-Quit” Saying Stupid Shit
Everywhere I look lately, I see the words “Quiet-quit”. Especially on Medium articles, as of late. I had to look up the meaning and once I saw it, ugh. Sometimes, certain phrases just make you want to puke. Gag me with a thesaurus.

Whither Toronto?
Why do I hate that city so much? I know that I am not alone with this. Many of my fellow Canadians have very strong opinions about T.O., Hogtown, the Economic Heart of Canada…and That Place. But there is no hate like the hate that grows and festers like the one from someone who lives in close proximity to that town.

Does it matter who files for divorce first in New Jersey?
Yes, it matters. Whether you file for divorce first or your spouse does, it will likely depend on the specific circumstances of your case. If you are filing for divorce because your spouse cheated, then normally, you would want to be the one who files for divorce first, so that there aren’t any accusations of collusion between spouses.

Quotes of Dad
Dad was born in 1933, in Pittsburgh, the surviving twin of a single parent, his twin having died at birth, making him a survivor right from the start. His mother had left Canada to escape the shame of pregnancy out of wedlock. The world was in depression and times were tough. She found work as live-in cook for a millionaire widow. Her life, never easy, was made harder by the fact that she was largely deaf, depending on hearing aids at a time when that technology was little better than sticking an “ear-trumpet” in one’s ear. She had coiled wires hanging out of her ears leading to a sizable battery box and can remember how those cumbersome hearing aids would sometimes spontaneously erupt, producing a loud, piercing squeal, which would illicit a hard involuntary hand-slap to that ear. Her son was raised in a succession of Catholic boarding homes, essentially orphanages. Not an easy start, and one he would never elaborate on, even when pressed.

Shifting Mortality
You said we are equals but is that true now? You become two while I’m stuck in one. I was warned about you and set to prepare for practice. You hide behind your words as if it’s your superpower. You treat a pet like a child, with negative reinforcement with toxic words. Like a toy you’re willing to throw it away when it gives you more trouble than peace. Similar to a newborn child, the pain comes more than the pleasure. The joys arrive in between the annoyance. Babies need patience and guidance—no torment and neglect. Like a fire when you see a spark, you’re ready to blow it all up and go for the tragedy. Damaged thoughts rage in as the unthinkable surfaces.

Solo Meal Dates Should Be More Common
Often times have been lonely times. I'm a person that left my home country and has seemed to lose all the so-called friends I had in the US. When I'm in the states, I'm currently afraid to call it America because of a few people arguing that the two continents and all 35 countries are called "America".

Voiceless
I have forgotten the sound of her voice. Having to bear that knowledge brings me more pain than I could ever verbally express. I have forgotten the sound of her voice. Oh, my God. How could this have happened? When did this happen? Ever since childhood, I knew I would never forget my Nonna. I would never, ever forget her. I would forever cherish her and keep her at the forefront of my heart and mind.

Why I Still Write...
Do not whine… Do not complain. Work harder. Spend more time alone. - Joan Didion Here I am, staring at the blank page and coming up with another idea for an online piece that will be posted on Vocal with the hope that it will become popular, read widely, maybe even viral. I know that the odds are against me, and yet I still do this. I find a way to sit down and stare down a blank white rectangle that does not care either way if I decide to search for porn or create another poem, essay, list or story (my usual choices). And sometimes I wonder why.
