"Got Your Nose"
“Got yer noze,” I heard a male voice mumble. “No, you don’t!”, I heard a soft deliberate reply. “Yes, I do! See right here,” he laughed as he presented his right hand, palm up with his thumb squeezed firmly between his index and middle finger to represent her nose. They both giggled aloud oblivious to my presence. I watched, while more listened, as this adorable couple with Down’s Syndrome walked towards me on the river pathway. Repeating this comedic drama over and over as they laughed louder with each act. He would pretend to grab her nose over and over, laughing harder each time. Their voices so sincere. Their love overflowing so much, I almost tripped over it. I could still hear them carrying on as they passed. I swore they were laughing so hard stuff was actually coming out of their noses and possibly his thumb as well.

Moonlight & Merlot
Let me start by saying that I have not been on a date in a very long time. I was in a relationship for 5 years. I ended it when I realized it was going nowhere. I wasn’t really looking for another relationship, but after 2 years of being alone I decided to jump back into the dating game.

Drunk Fate
Vinny splashed some aftershave on his face and grinned in the mirror. He walked over to his bedroom and put on his clothes lying on the bed: a cream colored button-down, black pants, and a black jacket. He could hear the phone ringing over the TV playing in the other room. “Eh, they'll call back,” he reasoned. Attempting to sit on the edge of the bed to put on his socks, he stumbled and landed on his rear-end. “Oh no.” He plopped into a sturdier position. His phone blasted its ringtone again. “What? What?!” Vinny marched to the phone to seize this annoyance.

Merlot
Here I sit in the Central Ave. Café, alone and waiting for my internet date to appear. It’s a comfortable afternoon in July, and I enjoy coming to this Café on dates for three reasons. One, the booze. That’s a no brainer. Relaxed inhibitions and all that. Two, the view of the board walk is incredible, and this spot is surprisingly low key as such. That brings me to three, the cliental is local enough that the place is never empty, and thereby a safe public space. It’s not a rowdy nightclub so you can hear yourself talk. You can feel comfortable here meeting friends or alone, just reading a book and lounging in your casuals. Tonight, I have dolled myself in a floral-patterned House of Foxy top, some thrifted grey chinos, and some enchanting ‘Miss L Fire’ wedges with firebirds across the top. Those are my secret weapon to inspire extra confidence in myself and bring good luck as I embark on new adventures. I enjoy little embellishments in my wardrobe and if they’re whimsical or animal, even better. I wonder if my date will appreciate them.

Two Uses for a Glass of Merlot
It was about 7pm on a Friday evening when I strode into the popular city restaurant near my office. I had quickly showered at work and changed from my Zegna suit into a white linen shirt and dark chinos. I wore a musky cologne that women seemed to like. Remembering my wedding ring, I quickly slipped it off and slid it into my pocket to avoid awkward questions.

An April Fool
The margarita tastes like summer. I close my eyes and listen to sounds that only I can hear – waves breaking on the beach and the cry of gulls. I turn my face to the sun and imagine the cool wet sand between my toes. Another sip and I smell fresh-mown grass and potted geraniums and smoky barbecue grills. Summer is many weeks away, but this first day of April has gifted us with a taste of warmer days to come, and restaurant patios in Toronto have sprung to life with patrons like me who are keening for them.

You Didn’t Know
I didn’t think what we were doing was wrong. I knew crawling under the motion-detecting hallway light to avoid waking up my sister sleeping in the living room was wrong. I knew getting into your car a few houses down was wrong. And when my sister asked if I took the dog out in the middle of the night because she saw a shadow on the patio, I should’ve said yes. Instead, I panicked and convinced her she saw a ghost.

Close Encounters of the Beach Kind
I boarded the ferry and sat with my friend as fellow hotel guests shuffled on behind us. We sat and waited for the quick ride across the bay to begin. A day in the sun took a toll on my Irish complexion and all I could imagine was laying down on my cool mattress with the A.C. buzzing overhead, lulling me to sleep.

Glass of life
Sometimes we can feel when we make mistakes. In my case - I always know that what I’m about to do is a complete mistake, but I still do it. I have a strong intuition and I had it for as long as I existed but I never used it. It’s just silly to always have the answer but to never answer the right way. That’s why feeling wrong, after having the pure chance to be happy with no mistakes in life, left me with the bothering feeling of guilt. Nothing really helped getting rid of this feeling. OK, maybe wine does, but only temporarily.
