The Audition
The year was 2016 and I was a small town girl in New York with hopes of being a star. I was quickly closing out my sixth year in the city with very moderate success. Moderate might be the wrong word. I had been hired three times to speak. Every other role I’d ever taken either didn’t pay or had me stuck somewhere in the background for “background” or “atmosphere.”

Mismatched
We have all been on those dates that we know from the very beginning or soon after that it's doomed. We wonder, how the heck do we get out of it? How do we walk away and keep some bit of dignity intact? How do we conclude the date without causing a scene or ill feelings?

Inadvertent Slip
Regrets – T’was the night before Christmas…I mean literally, it was the night before Christmas. Midnight Mass was being held at our church and I was again among the enthralled worshippers who felt obligated to attend the celebration. Sex by the Side of the Road
This is one of those times when I’m happy my husband isn’t an avid reader of my pieces, here, unless I put one in front of his face. SO happy. As the senior editor at a publishing company specializing in the manufacturing industry, he has enough on his plate. Thank Buddha.

The Run
I had always been the weirdo with no friends that sat alone, and this day explains why. It was Senior-Award Day. A day I was proud of because I knew I wouldn't be winning any awards, or so I thought. I had always been timid with severe anxiety, so walking across the stage in front of the entire senior class, and an audience would be a disaster. I did not want to win an award and to make sure that didn't happen, I had a master plan. A week before the ceremony, I had made sure to get confirmation from all of my teachers, I wouldn't be getting an award. Although it was one instructor, R.O.T.C, who insisted that all senior cadets should receive one. I assured him that I did nothing all year to deserve anything. Jokingly, he seemed to reconsider, and out of desperation, I chose to believe him. There was no way he would be calling my name. I never thought my lack of participation would ever pay off, or so I thought.
