Finding The Genie

If We All Had Three Wishes

Introduction

We all love the story of Aladdin and how he got the wishes from the Genie when he rubbed the lamp, and we would all like to be given a wish or two that would come true, but often even the simplest wishes may have unforeseen repercussions. We could wish for world peace, but that could be an Armageddon that destroys all life and therefore leaves the world at peace. I don't think that anyone who wishes for world peace would want that outcome.

I have included "A Wish Away" by The Wonderstuff for you to listen to as you read and I would love to know know what your three wishes would be in the comments.

So What Would I Wish For?

As soon as I start to think about this, the wishes start to multiply and so the limitation starts me to consider what effects my wishes might have and then I start to reassess what I am thinking of.

Single items like a tub of ice cream (I seem to remember someone asked that from a Genie on Gilligan's Island) or becoming a millionaire are fairly simple, but even if those are granted they can have far-reaching effects.

I really want an end to war, poverty and famine, and deadly diseases, and I want a great education for everyone.

I want to see tolerance and an end to the worship of money, money should just be a tool that negates the need for bartering.

But as you can see my wishes would soon be used up if I found that magical Genie's lamp that would enable me to choose three wishes.

Maybe a global universal income would provide everyone with their basic needs, food, shelter, education and health. I think that would be one good qualified wish because that would then cause people to be able to look forward to the future and to be happy, and not to be afraid of falling ill or starving.

There would still be the issue of the bad eggs wanting to steal, control and hurt, but my first wish would create an environment where they could be dealt with, a lot of people who are led towards the dark side would not be if they had all their needs provided for. The resources are there, but as they are sitting in offshore accounts doing nothing they need to be liberated to benefit all.

That's my first wish.

Then the next is an eternal, healthy life for all, well as long as they are happy with it. I know there are issues with space and resources that this could create, but I believe that some people would feel they had had enough and want to move on to the next phase, not everyone wants children, and since you could be in the situation forever with good friends, that, I believe would be a good second wish.

In my chat with my friend Nicola, I told her that when I spoke with my cancer surgeon he said that we were the same age and he intended to live past a hundred and expected I was the same, and I agreed with him. She was surprised that I was of that mind and I said, as long as I am and in reasonable physical shape, I want to go one for as long as possible.

And a final wish, a one-nation world with no war. Think how wonderful that would be. The news would be what we were building, and finding, and spreading happiness. There may be natural disasters but everyone would pull together to overcome them.

Conclusion

That's my three wishes, so I would love to hear yours.

This is my final Vocal story until the day before my birthday on Monday.

Thank you so much for reading, you mean so much to me.

Nicely said, Mike. I'd have to think more about my three wishes, but and equal distribution of wealth would be high on the list as it would solve a lot of other problems.

  • These are wonderful. This would be a great unofficial challenge idea. đź’—

All of my small wishes are burdened with people-pleasing, pride and judgment (that my writing would prosper, that people would at least reduce waste, recycle what they can, and switch to renewables) and my bigger wishes (like just policies that do not fuel war and hatred and ending all forms of modern slavery) bump up against complexity and things beyond my limited understanding. The remedy I see for myself in tossing out idols like greed, instant gratification, pride, etc. is to worship unconditional love (God) and plug into that power and wisdom. Hence, my wishful wishes may remain lofty but are channeled into transformative prayer and action (even though I still obsessively check my reads)!

  • Stop worship of money, global universal income, good health and no war, I would wish for all those too Mike

Very engaging story and a little controversy in there. My three wishes: Everyone will live in Harmony, Everyone will be healthy and Everyone is wealthy .🥰

My three wishes would be to one to see my mom and dad again along with my brother all in heaven. Number 2 I wish for just enough to make me happy with having more faith Number 3 I wish for many years to come give or take.
