To Wander Through A Painting

A Thoughtpiece

By Mike Singleton πŸ’œ Mikeydred Published 10 months ago β€’ 1 min read
The Night Watch by Rembrandt Harmenszoon Van Rijn – offset lithograph fine art print

See a painting and fall into it, imagine you are there, meeting the people, talking with them, and enjoying the scenery.

This is not where you are, this is somewhere heavenly, like a dream. In this world you can fly like an angel, walk through corridors and explore nooks and crannies and hidden passages.

You may find treasure or secret books, that contain magical stories and spells to cast.

Every painting is a picture full of secrets left there for you to find by the artist, almost like the stories we weave from the words and alphabets at our disposal.

What can you see through that door, or window? What creatures are waiting in the trees, watch as the wind blows the flowers.

Lose yourself in a painting, every one has a different story, and every revisit will reveal a new secret.

Really enjoyed this - loved your choice of painting. I remember seeing it on a school trip to Amsterdam a long, long, long time ago!

  • Love the painting & the article, the way you draw us into not just this but any piece of art, like a practiced & well-versed docent.

This is terrific for I do not know if this counts, but if I am really into a book I become a character of that book but just as an observer.

This is a lucid explanation for my love of writing ekphrastic poetry; well done!

  • This was lovely. The writing… and your flow of thoughts. Not the painting 🀭 The painting is so dark 🀍
