Betrayal

A journey of friendship

By Rukayyatu hashimPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

I should have known, i really should have, right before we left for the restaurant, something felt wrong, In fact everything felt wrong.

My baby was kidnapped, I released his hand for 5 minutes to talk to the cashier, to book for a table and i turned around and he wasn’t there. I know, it doesn’t make sense to me also. My husband didn’t come in with us because he had to park, the plan was, while he did that, i and ammar will go in and get a table. But, we didn’t even get to getting a table and everything went south.

We looked everywhere for him, all around the restaurant, but nothing. The restaurant lacked security cameras, so there wasn’t any hope on that front.

My husband and I went to the police station, and as i stood there, they explained to me that my 2-year-old couldn’t be declared missing until after 24 hours. My husband was the one talking to them, because i really couldn’t fathom how in five minutes, my world had turned. They kept asking me why i left his hand in the first place, what happened at home before we left, do we think his playing a game or trying to trick us ?I couldn’t give them am answer, i think I wasn’t even hearing them at some point, i just kept thinking about the dangers my baby might be in.

I blame my self though, Ammar is a very very active baby, so leaving his hands, was the greatest mistake i made.

“Hayati, i think we should go back home, the restaurant is closing”

And i turned my head and looked at my husband, Rayyan, we are currently sitting in the car outside the restaurant, and he looks so calm, while i on the other hand is at the point of a breakdown.

“How are you so calm Rayyan, We CAN’T find Ammar, we should go back home? What if he finds his way and comes back here, what if his close by, what if ….”

“One of us has to be calm, we have checked everywhere around here, we have knocked at every door hayaty, i think he might…”

“NO!!!,NO, don’t say it, don’t say it Rayyan please, why would someone try to take him, why?”

“I do not know, but let’s go home and take action, we are wasting time here. We can begin by reaching out to people, posting his picture, sharing where he was last seen, and asking anyone around here to keep an eye out for him. we can start from there and.…”

“Buzzzzzz”

We both glanced at his phone , and the call that followed was the beginning of tragedies in our lives.
