Introduction
I don't normally say anything in my thoughtpieces, but with this subject, I feel I need to clarify. The image is available here.
I find driving stressful in traffic, having to find parking, maintenance and almost everything to do with it.
To enjoy a drive, I need to be on a wide open road with no other traffic, maybe no other human presence. The only place I can do that in the British Isles is far north of Edinburgh in Scotland, maybe two hundred miles away. Now I have said that I can write.
A Drive
To be on the road in a fast car, with a friend or alone, speeding through the landscape like you are flying, the road opens up in front of you and trails behind you, you have not a care in the world.
Look at the mountains, rising high and snow-covered, passing lakes, rivers and lochs, as you travel north, not knowing what wonders you might find.
You are the only ones on the road, enjoying the freedom it gives you, open the windows, feel the wind as you speed along the winding road.
This is what every road trip should be like .....

I get what you mean about needing that perfect driving scenario. I've had similar experiences on long, empty stretches. It's like the world slows down, and all you focus on is the road ahead. What's the most memorable thing you've seen on one of those far - north drives? Speeding through the landscape sounds amazing. I bet the views are breathtaking. Do you think more people would enjoy driving if they could find those kinds of roads more easily?
I'm like you. I really don't enjoy driving. But give me a rural area, with hardly any traffic, and I'm fine. There are some beautiful areas around here locally to drive through. I really should get some pictures and post them.
A touch of Jack Kerouac, Mike.
Lovely.Though it's hard to take a road trip here in SG...too small!
Well wriiten. When my wife and I lived on the West Coast, we'd drive the Lost Coast Road, a loop off of Highway 101 in northern California.
A perfect escape, where the road, the wind, and the wild become your only companions.
Reminds me of Wales we used to love the drives before I was ill
