The Book's Too Big Without You

Every Book Needs A Reader, Every Story Needs A Reader Or Listener

Introduction

Modifying the title from The Police song but these are just some thoughts that I have when I see these absolutely huge libraries of physical books. I have about ten bookcases in my house and hundreds of unread books on my Kindle, and I am also a very slow reader.

A Book Needs A Reader

I am also a slow writer but here are a few of mine:

Look at that library, the physical books look impressive, but I wonder how many have been read. They look so impressive but are not easily accessible.

We all write and we want to be read, but our words need to be accessible to readers and I make mine available in various forms, digitally and as hard copy, but I know there are a lot of books in my house that I have not read, and maybe I won't ever read.

I suppose the author has got my money so if I buy a book and don't read it then my conscience is clear, but I feel a slight sadness that the book is on the shelf effectively ignored and unread.

Conclusion

I would love to know what you think about this. If a book requires a ladder for you to reach it, then it's not really accessible, is it?

Every book, story, tale, really does need a reader or listener to bring it to life.

Thank you so much for reading.

Loving the library photos and wouldn't be discouraged by high shelves if I really wanted to read something specific! If I buy a book, it means I'll read it. Several fresh acquisitions are stacked by my bed, but all the rest have been read, some more than once. Not sure how many I own right now, had to downsize significantly before moving house so a lot went to the local library or friends... I like making space for new books from time to time!

I am saving some classic books for my Granddaughter's inheritance. She is just 13 this year, - you don't know what life will be like when she is of age. Very nice article,

  • There was this lady featured on TV here who has a hanging bookcase -near her ceiling! Sort of a loft. She has to access a ladder and do a trapeze kind of thing! But she kind of likes it that way! I am an ebook person!
