DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS

Blood clot in deep veins, It mostly occur in pelvic veins and veins of lower limb which mostly affects Femoral Vein.

Etiology:

It is described by Virchow, a famous scientist who described:

  1. Classic Triad,
  2. Venous Stasis Injury to Vessel wall,
  3. Hypercoagulable states.

Complications:

This clot may break off and pass through the heart and enter the Pulmonary Circulation resulting in Occlusion Of Pulmonary Artery, Cardiopulmonary Arrest and Death.

Treatment:

Surgical patient are given specific prophylactic treatment, Prophylactic Regimen includes:

Anticoagulant Injections-Intravenous and Oral Anticoagulant started.

Graduated Stockings- Facilitate emptying of deep veins

Clinical Signs:

  1. Although there are some clinical observation in patients:
  2. Calf Muscle Tenderness,
  3. Postoperative Pyrexia,
  4. Limb Swelling.

Diagnosis:

  1. Duplex Doppler,
  2. Sonography,
  3. Ascending Venography.
