
Blood clot in deep veins, It mostly occur in pelvic veins and veins of lower limb which mostly affects Femoral Vein.
Etiology:
It is described by Virchow, a famous scientist who described:
- Classic Triad,
- Venous Stasis Injury to Vessel wall,
- Hypercoagulable states.
Complications:
This clot may break off and pass through the heart and enter the Pulmonary Circulation resulting in Occlusion Of Pulmonary Artery, Cardiopulmonary Arrest and Death.
Treatment:
Surgical patient are given specific prophylactic treatment, Prophylactic Regimen includes:
Anticoagulant Injections-Intravenous and Oral Anticoagulant started.
Graduated Stockings- Facilitate emptying of deep veins
Clinical Signs:
- Although there are some clinical observation in patients:
- Calf Muscle Tenderness,
- Postoperative Pyrexia,
- Limb Swelling.
Diagnosis:
- Duplex Doppler,
- Sonography,
- Ascending Venography.
