This is a series taking a look back at popular albums and popular singers from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. A link to each will be provided below. The 1970s included The Beatles and Beatles going solo. There was Chicago, The Doors, and other talented artists such as Cat Stevens and Elton John, among others.

Album – Chicago Transit Authority is the debut album recorded by the American rock band Chicago. The double album came out in 1969 but charted in 1971 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014. It included the successful singles “Beginnings”, Questions 67 and 68”, and “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?”

“Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” is a song that was written and sung by Robert Lamm and recorded by the American rock band Chicago. It was released as a single in 1971.

Album – McCartney is the debut solo album recorded by the English rock musician Paul McCartney. It was released in 1970. McCartney performed the album alone overdubbing on a four-track tape. The cover of the album features photos by Linda McCartney including a collage of 21 family photos. Images showed Paul, Linda, seven-year-old Heather from Linda’s first marriage, newborn Mary, and the McCartney’s sheepdog Martha.

“Maybe I’m Amazed” is a song that was written by Paul McCartney. The original recording was never released as a single. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked the song at number 347 on its list The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Album – Morrison Hotel was released by the American rock band The Doors in 1970. In this album the band returned to their blue rock style. The album charted on the Billboard 200 chart and became the band’s highest-charting album in the UK.

“You Make Me Real” is a song that was written by band member Jim Morrison. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Album – Tea for the Tillerman was recorded by the British singer and songwriter Cat Stevens in 1970. The album includes many of his best-known songs like “Where Do the Children Play?”, “Wild World”, and “Father and Son”.

“Wild World” is a song that was written and recorded by Cat Stevens and released as a single in 1970. The song was a commercial success.

Album – Let It Be is the final album recorded by the English rock band The Beatles and released in 1970. The album came out a month after the official announcement that the band was breaking up. The album topped the charts in both the US and the UK. It included two successful number-one singles “Let It Be” and “The Long and Winding Road”.

“The Long and Winding Road” is a song that was recorded by The Beatles. It was written by band member Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Album – Sweet Baby James is an album recorded by the American singer and songwriter James Taylor. It was released in 1970. The album includes two of Taylor’s earliest successful singles “Country Road” and “Fire and Rain”. It is ranked at number 104 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.

“Fire and Rain” is a song that was written and recorded by James Taylor. It was released as the second single from the album. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Album – Cosmo’s Factory is an album that was recorded by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1970. The album charted on the Billboard 200 chart and six of the eleven tracks on the album charted in the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is ranked at number 413 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

“Lookin’ Out My Back Door” is a song that was recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival. It was written by the band’s lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter John Fogerty. The song became their fifth and final number-two Billboard hit and their only number-one hit on the Cash Box Top 100 chart.

Album – Bridge Over Troubled Water is the final album recorded by the American folk/rock duo Simon & Garfunkel in 1970. The album topped the charts in many countries. It won six Grammy Awards at the 1971 Grammy Awards including Album of the Year.

“Bridge Over Troubled Water” was released as the second single from the album. It was written by Paul Simon. The song won five awards at the 13th Annual Grammy Awards in 1971 including Song of the Year.
