Album Lookback: Dirty Computer by Janelle Monaé
Janelle Monáe dwells in a distinctive stratum, an immediately distinguishable visage—magazine covers, Super Bowl adverts—sans hit singles or a classic album (yet). She shares this unique realm with artists like Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, esteemed performers who rekindle your parents' faith in modern music yet without omnipresence. Candidly, it's enticing.

These Women Are Changing K-Pop
The Fourth Generation of K-pop officially began in 2018. If unfamiliar, K-pop is loosely divided into generations which last technically a decade, but in practice more about every five years. All groups who debuted from sometime in early 2018 are considered Fourth Generation. Technically, the Fourth Generation should come to an end soon--but like I said--these categorizations are a bit nebulous and somewhat determined after the fact.

Songs About Murder
Ballads about murder pepper British and American history. Sadly, as the blog, Murder Ballad Monday (yes, there is a blog devoted to the subject) notes, many of them have a misogynistic streak – men killing women as often as not, just for the hell of it. The Everly Brothers' Down in the Willow Garden is a prime example.

Songs About Decisive Moments
Life is filled with decisions. In fact, you might say our lives are defined by decisive moments. As the poet Robert Frost once put it, we come across two paths in the forest and have to choose one. Taking the one less chosen can make all the difference.

Feline Like A Song
Introduction I was not sure that I had already done and looking through my stories I don't think I have. I didn't think there were that many songs that related to cats apart from those from Disney films and "Love Cats" by The Cure, but then I started to remember that there was quite a lot in my collection. The beat generation referred to the cool ones as cats so there may be a few where the feline referral is more than a little ambiguous.
