Selena Gomez & The Scene

In case you forget, during the late 2000s and 2010s, singer Selena Gomez was in a band called Selena Gomez & the Scene. Selena Gomez & the Scene was a pop-rock band that released three albums: Kiss & Tell (2009), A Year Without Rain (2010), and When the Sun Goes Down (2011) all of which reached the top ten of the US Billboard 200 and were certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) until she went solo and became a Global pop icon. This is what happened to Selena Gomez & the Scene.

During the Disney era, Gomez starred as Alex Russo in the hit series Wizards of Waverly Place she started singing the theme song on the show.

While she was starring in Wizards, Gomez would star in Another Cinderella Story lending her voice to the soundtrack including singles "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" and "New Classic" featuring Drew Seeley.

She would be featured on Forever the Sickest Kids' single "Woah Oh".

In 2009, Gomez signed with Hollywood Records. Gomez continued to lend her voice to Disneymaina albums and Disney soundtracks.

Gomez would announce on Myspace that she is starting her own band. However, Hollywood Records didn’t want Gomez in a band and reportedly wanted her as an artist because of her "fan base". The band featured Gomez on vocals, Ethan Roberts on lead guitar and backing vocals, Greg Garman on drums, Joey Clement on bass guitar, and Nick Foxer on keyboard and backing vocals. Gomez posted a video of the audition on YouTube. Gomez shared some big news about her upcoming debut album with her Twitter followers and even revealed the name of her new band.

Gomez also explained why she chose to name her band the Scene.

"My band is amazing. I love them," she wrote. "I named my band the Scene because a lot of people are making fun of me calling me a 'wannabe scene,' so I thought I would poke fun [at] that. Can't beat 'em join 'em! Haha"

The band's first single “Falling Down” was released on August 25, 2009. The music video premiered on Disney Channel.

Their debut album, Kiss & Tell, was released on September 29, 2009, debuting at No. 9 on the US Billboard 200 and earning the band a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in March 2010. The second single from the album, "Naturally", reached the top thirty in the U.S., as well as the top twenty in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and Germany. The song has been certified Platinum in the U.S. and Canada. The song became the most radio played on every radio station including Radio Disney. As of 2012, Kiss & Tell has sold over 900,000 copies in the U.S.

The band's second album, A Year Without Rain, was released on September 17, 2010, debuting at No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and earning the band a second RIAA Gold certification in January 2011. Two singles were released from the album, "Round & Round" and "A Year Without Rain". As of 2012, the album has sold over 800,000 copies in the U.S.

The album has been given mixed to positive reviews and critics note it as an improvement from the band's debut album. A Year Without Rain debuted in the United States at number four, selling 66,000 copies in its first week.

Two singles: "Round and Round" and "A Year Without Rain" topped the Billboard charts. The band's third and final album, When the Sun Goes Down, was released on June 28, 2011, debuting at No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Its' lead single "Who Says" received its radio premiere on On Air with Ryan Seacrest on March 8, 2011, followed by a music video premiere on Disney Channel on March 11. The song has been certified Platinum in the U.S. The second single from the album, "Love You Like a Love Song", was released on June 17, 2011, and was certified 4× Platinum in the U.S.

Throughout the band's success, the band has won numerous awards and accolades. The band won four Poptastic Awards, including the Best Duo or Group Award. The band has also been nominated for five awards at the MuchMusic Video Awards and two MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2011, the band won its first People's Choice Award for Breakout Group. In 2012, "Love You Like a Love Song" was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award. On July 22, 2012, Selena Gomez & the Scene won "Choice Music: Group" for the third time in a row at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards. The band has won four Vevo Certified Awards. The band has toured state fairs and music festivals with a few headlining concerts thrown in. The tour became a major success with critics and spectators alike, selling out many dates within the United States and even in European countries. With opening acts: JLS, Mitchell Musso, All Star Weekend, Christina Grimmie, and Days Difference. The band has also toured with Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, and Enrique Iglesias for the KIIS-FM Jingle Ball concert series. Since 2012, the band went on hiatus and hasn't released any music due to Gomez's acting career taking over. After that, the band officially disbanded without saying they are disbanded. During a Q&A session with Ask Anything Chat, Selena opened up about what it was like to be a lead singer for a band — and what she thinks of their music in retrospect.

"That to me was a very specific time in my life. I think if you're 14, 15, 16 and you're trying to sing about situations in life that you haven't experienced, I don't really know if that qualifies you as an artist if I'm being honest with you.It helped me to have people who were older around me that helped guide me, and inspired me and pushed me.And there was a moment when I felt like I could do it and I wanted to try it on my own."

Where are they now????

While Gomez still succeeding in her career, making music on her own and starring in the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building including garnering an Emmy nomination. Where are "the Scene" (Selena's former bandmates) now? Thanks to Popcrush.com for sharing info about her band's whereabouts.

Drummer Greg Garman has since gone on to tour with rock bands Hollywood Undead and Holy Wars. He worked with artists like Becky G, Greyson Chance, Grace VanderWaal, and the late Christina Grimmie. He now owns a vegan lip balm brand called Apocalips and owns an Esty store. He has 7k followers on Instagram and still drumming.

Bassist Joey Clement who was co-writing the title track on Selena Gomez & the Scene's final album, 2011's When the Sun Goes Down, Clement now plays bass for Alex Band and other artists such as Dylan Dunlap. Joey is a Champagne connoisseur and plays bass for Wayland Country, a country band.

Lead Guitarists and backing vocals Ethan Roberts touring as musical director with Katy Perry, Kelsea Ballerini, and more. He also played in the mid-2000s with The Veronicas, Cheyenne Kimball, and American Idol's Carmen Rasmusen. Roberts focused on music licensing and has received placements in many commercials and TV shows. Most recently, one of his songs was featured in the June 4 episode of Grey's Anatomy.

Keyboardist Dane Forrest has remained active in the music industry. He and bandmate member Clement reunited as two-thirds of the country band Clampett. The group even opened for Dan + Shay, but it looks like their Instagram hasn't been updated since March 2016. He also currently manages the pop-punk band Anarbor and plays keys for country singer Dylan Schneider.

It seems like "the Scene" are living their lives steadily so far. I think in my opinion she wanted to create the 2000s pop version of "Selena Y Los Dinos" after all the late Queen of Tejano music was in a band before she became a solo artist. Thanks to her mother Mandy who named her "Selena" .
