The Rocking Life: A beautiful virtuoso named Larissa - A New Yorker among New Yorkers
A beautiful virtuoso named Larissa: A New Yorker among New Yorkers I knew Larissa from afar. A far, far, far, afar. She lived on the East Coast in New York and I lived on the West Coast in California. We lived as far away from each other as two artists could live from each other. I am a brilliant writer and she is a singer/songwriter/musician extraordinaire. I smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and she poses with cigarettes because, well just because I guess that's what you do in New York when you are an amazing artist in a city of amazing artists trying to get something, anything, to set you apart from the rest of the people who would slit your very throat to get ahead. Not so in California.

The Rocking Life
The DJ A tribute to KCLB DJ “TK” I remember my first radio and the stations that I used to listen to on the AM band. My favorite station was a station called KLOS in Los Angeles. I was only 14 at the time but it was a magical time of rock music with bands that would transform rock and roll music forever. Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Queen, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Jethro Tull, the Allman Brother’s band, the Ramones, The Clash, The Doors, Creedence Clearwater, ZZ Top, Yes, KISS, Rush (my personal favorite in this era), Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Journey, Thin Lizzy, King Crimson, The Kinks, Styx, Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, The Moody Blues, Bad Company, Electric Light Orchestra, Steve Miller Band, T. Rex, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, Steely Dan, Mott the Hoople, The Talking Heads, The Byrds, Boston, Cheap Trick, and many other bands and one hit wonders that went by the wayside.

My Time With B. B. King
From a little boy I've always enjoyed playing music, It didn't matter to me rather it was the drums, the piano, the organ, the lead guitar or the Bass guitar or even a flute I was ready. I was adopted at 8 months old and the family that took me in was a very musical but church going group of people. It wasn't long I found myself wanting to play something too. In those days we would walk to church down a long dirt road and as we got closer and closer you could hear the people singing. The Church floor was wooden so you could hear them keeping time with the patting of they're feet as they were singing. One Sunday I went into the church and sat in my favorite seat right down front as always but this Sunday the Pastor Elder John pulled out an electric guitar. Wow, boy did he play and those old people danced all around with so much joy I thought I was dreaming. I was about 6 years old then and I'm sure that was when the "I Got To Do That" bug bit me. Every Sunday I would go to church in a hurry, sometimes actually running to hear Elder John Play and see those people shout and dance. One Sunday it was very hot and an usher handed me a fan to fan with but somehow, I ended up holding it like a guitar and trying to help Elder John Play.

The Power of Music
Back in the 60's and 70's people mostly heard songs on the radio from a small radio they carried or a radio in their car or playing in a store somewhere as they shopped. It didn't really matter who was singing, rather they were black or white, young or old, it was the way the music made you feel that made that song your favorite song. Every time that song came on the radio it made you feel happy or think of the person you loved or just think of a happy moment. There were houses on a block where only one or two homes had a radio and when that song would come on they would play the radio in the window so everybody could hear that magic song that seemed to make everybody smile at the same time. All music is not like that now but every now and again you hear a song that reminds you of those days.

The Effect of Music On A Woman's Worth
The song, “Hit Me Baby” by Britney Spears marked the encouragement of stereotypically sexualized personas among young girls and women. Apuke, Jigem, and Lingbuin (2019), stated that research has shown a significant rise and development of music videos due to its enormous appeal to express a variety of emotions, ideas, and feelings. Meanwhile, there is an increasing concern about the negative impact of music on the perception of women in society including its misogynistic connotation of women. Sexuality in music videos has become more intense and more frequent and women face a constant reminder of images informing them who they should be, what they need to resemble, and how they are expected to act.

My Song Bird History
I remember as a little girl singing with my family. I remember the sounds of the piano, the hard boom from the bass and the sweet melodies from the guitar as I and my sisters sung back up to my mother. We were and we are still a happy family yet as a kid I endured so much pain and heartache. Music for me was like falling in love everyday, since none of the relationships I involved myself in were healthy or secure. As I grew older music for me was a release from my addiction that burden me.

Music is The Magic
In the short time I've been on this planet I have listened to and absorbed over 500,000 songs by Artists from 4 decades of Pop Culture. I've made some headway in my quest to improve on guitar and completed enough music to consider myself active as a music maker. There is no trophy, no grammy, no oscar or other award on my mantel over the fireplace or next to the flat panel screen or iMac. There is just great memories.
